I'm thinking of upgrading my Intel Pro/Wireless 3945 abg to an Intel 4965 agn. I have a hp dv6626us. First of all i want to ask if this can be done, secondly are there any manuals online on properly installing the card, and also if i can upgrade the card is that the best one i can get for my system or can i go higher like the 5100. As far as cards go i am mainly looking for a n high range card

The card will physically fit, but the card may not work in your notebook because:
    1. HP used to, and maybe still does, "Whitelist" certain wireless cards in the BIOS. This means that only the wireless cards used in "production" are "allowed" to operate.
    2. Wireless N cards need to have 3 antennas for the MIMO (Multi In/Multi Out) technology that N uses. Standard B/G cards only use 2 antennas.

The highest you could go would be 4965 and even then it might now work. The 3945 runs on the Napa platform and 4965 made its appearance on late Napa platforms but mostly on Santa Rosa based notebooks.

I also have a Wireless 5100 that uses 2 antennas.

    These are considered 'draft-N'.
They ARE better/faster than the b/g protocol cards ... however, the Wireless 5300 comes with 3 antennas and allows for even larger bandwidth/speed to be transmitted compared to the 2 antennas counterpart 'draft-N'.

say i install a mimo 3 antenna into my laptop, ive seen some articles that have said this can be done, will i then be able to upgrade to a N card. Will it even be possible to go up as high as the 5300, i am choosing this card because of the "supposed" increase in range and speed.
