I have a notebook customized for gaming.

    Dell XPS M1210
    2 GB of RAM DDR2 667MHz
    80GB HD 7,200 RPM
Nvidia GeForce Go 7400 w/ TurboCache
    Core2 Duo T7200 2.00Mhz

It sometimes gets so hot that it bluescreens and can literally burn your finger.
the m1210 looks pretty dull compared to the m1710 so i found this cooling pad on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/US-Light-Usb-3-...oling-Pad_W0QQitemZ250077906064QQcmdZViewItem The product features are better than most and I think it gives the look quite the kick. If anyone does not recommend this one please let me know and throw out your suggestions. Thanks.

I don't think playing too much WoW would cause overheating on a normal laptop, take a look at the cooling guide.Anyways, you have to make sure it does not act opposite M1210's cooling system,or it might have negative effects rather than helping.

No, obviously I'm not accusing you of lying ;)
Usually the reason for unusual heating is the dust getting in the laptop.[How long have you had the M1210].If it's normal or you haven't had the laptop for long. You should just wait for the M1210 owners to comment on the good cooling pad.

I have had since Feb of this year. I Have taken it fully apart (by reading the xps manual) and air dusted the necessary areas. I guess ill just have to wait longer than. Thanks in the meantime though.

I haven't got a cooler, as there's nothing worthwhile in the market so I use a 5" fan sitting on the end blowing air across. It's without a doubt better in cooling than anything that's out there..quite primitive but cheap and it works..it can cool the laptop cpu from 70+ to 50 in less than 3 minutes..that's fast..
have you thought about the quadcooler?
Ia also think you'll go crazy with all those lights..I know I would..it would bother the hell out of me at night..get something that'll work..and IMO it looks like a toy and unprofessional..It also doesn't look like the NB will sit well on it...IMO..look elswhere..cheap is expensive...

I agree with thejedimaster. A small desk fan works way better than any cooler on the market and at a fraction of the cost. Have a setup simlar to that and it simply blows away the competition.

The problem with the coolers is this, it pulls or pushes air from the bottom..it has to pull the air or push the air through the cracks, which aren't many..if you look at the bottom of your laptop..it's pretty tight down there...no big holes...and so there's not much hot air extracted or pushed to cool...OTOH I used some rubber pegs from a chair to elevate the cpu and it also doesn't move because it's rubber..and so the 5 inch fan sits to the right where the vent intake and fan exausht are..this pushes air in to the hole and in turn pushes the air inside which is way more effective..It also pushes air in from the sound card holes ,hd slot, and from the pcmcia slot...it also moves the hot air running under and moves it across to the end..I can feel the hot air on the other side being pushed through..Also the fact that they have aluminum coolers doesn't mean it'll cool down faster than plastic..it's noted that aluminum has the property to cool better than plastic, but how much?..I don't think the difference is marginal if anything.. If someone wants to take advantage of the cooling pads, i'd recommend removing the doors to the wifi card/memory/GPU for extra effect..the parts are recessed and I don't think it should be a clearence problem with the fans..

To wowfanatic: yes, getting a cooler will alleviate some of the symptoms of your system overheating. I have a Targus cooler and I notice that if I leave it on during gaming, my core temp is 5C to 8C cooler. I do notice that Dells tend to have trouble with heat more than many other brands, a sign of less than thoughtful chassis construction and assembly.

A cooler will help you out. It will not solve the root of the problem however, as your notebook simply has too much beef for that formfactor (12.1"), especially since it's a Dell.
