1)can i need update only with pc300 ddr? or do i need to use manufactures ram only?

or willl any so-dimm 200 pin work with the laptop (e..g 2 x 1 gig)

    Hi.

The crucial website has a sytem scanner that will give you a list of compatible memory.

Or you can just select your system from the drop down lists.

are you sure its pc300, cause there is no such thing.
Download cpu-z, and go to the memory and spf tab, it will tell you the frequency and bandwidth of your memory.
    Most likely its Pc2100, pc2700 or pc3200.

    Hi.

I would belive Crucial over Everest anyday, it is guaranteed to work, if you specify your system.

What alienware model do you have.

    Regards

    John.

Pc3200 is the fastest ddr memory. You cannot run pc4200, 5300 or 6400, as they are ddr2 memory, which will physically not fit into your laptop.

You have to use ddr memory with your system.

Kevin you are mixing up the RAM name again. It is also called DDR-400 (PC-3200) if that makes it easier. The largest I have found is 1GB SODIMM's, link. ;)

the largest sodimms for pc3200 is 1Gb.
You really do not need more than 2gb of memory in any system.
Even with Vista, you can streamline vista to use 300mb of memory.

There may be PC4000 DDR desktop RAM, but Crucial doesn't list it. And, if your BIOS isn't configured to recognise it then it may trip up.

Stick to PC3200 RAM. However, check through the specs and look for the one with the smallest CL value. This OCZ module might be better than Crucial. It is definitely cheaper.

Wikki does not list DDR above PC-3200, I don't even think desktop at this point. I am pretty sure mixing up DDR-400 which is PC-3200. Looks like changing prefix and adding a zero.

I would take that OCZ , I only know good things about it.
One thing to note, you may want to consider upgrading to a newer mainboard to support faster memory, since RAM is pretty much dirt cheap nowadays.
