Will it be better to dish out 200-300 bucks for a new processor to upgrade the current core duos on our laptops?
Because I would assume that people are upgrading for the 64 bit... i know that the speed would be faster too but i mean each new processor will have an improvement in speed. Next years santa rosa will be even better.

So I guess what i'm asking is besides the speed increase, is there really a point to upgrading to merom because vista is delayed again and barely anyone uses a 64bit os currently...
Will the improvement be like going from a pentium m to a core solo in terms of speed? Because both core duo and core 2 duo can multitask with ease...

With little 64 bit usage, are the core 2 duos worth the ~$200 to $300? if so, please provide your reason... thanks

upgrading from a core duo to merom isnt really worth the extra 200-300 dollars until you can fully take advantage of the 64 bit. in everyday tasks your not even going to notice much between ex a 2.0 core duo vs 2.0 core 2 duo. From the benchmarks comparing the 2 merom was a little faster but again in day to day tasks your not going to notice much if anything. with the exception of some programs/tasks but even then nothing worth 200-300 dollars.
