5,400 read speed is a no go... and there are plenty of laptop with 1 TB... in fact the M980NU will be able to huse 3 HDD, 1.5tb with 3 500gb 7,200 rpm... which are priced at about 75 dollars or less a piece

It hasnt been officially released by Seagate yet. If! it is released, it'll obviously be around $200.

And if you want to advertise your ebay listing, there is a marketplace forum around here.

There are more laptops out there that don't house multiple drives than ones that do. 640GB would be nice for those.

not at 5,400 rpm speeds... In fact those probably won't be in circulation for much longer (5,400 rpm HDD's I mean)

What are you talking about? The WD5000BEVT which is a 500GB 5400rpm get's pretty much the same kind of number as the Momentus 7200.4... If you want that drive, just buy one of those:
http://www.nowdirect.com/exec/partInfo/part_detail.tsb?prcpart=SGRST906403FAA2E1-RK and pull the drive from it.

You just have to laugh at MrButterBiscuits. His logic is so flawed its inexcusable.

    1. Nobody wants 7200rpm laptops drives. They reduce battery life and crash far sooner that 5400rpm. The reliability of 5400rpm drives is superior.
    2. The he goes on how laptops house 3 drives. Too funny. 95% of laptops only house 1 drive FYI.
    3. Simply too funny.

No he stated the FIRST 1TB laptop... yeah I don't think so the Sager 9262 had 1TB HDD capable... for any performance seeker 7,200 rpm or a SSD is A MUST... and finally you might want to do some research before you speak... maybe establish in the forums that you know something before you go shoot your mouth off

Do you even know what you are saying? Listen, 95% of laptop DO NOT HOUSE more than one drive. How hard is this to understand? and again, 7200rpm drives SUCK, they reduce battery life, are noisy, and are much more unreliable than superior 5400rpm drives.

I'm gonna have to disagree with both of you. Honestly, comparing the latest generation (though the 7200.4's kinda suck compared to their theoretical performance) of 5400 and 7200 RPM drives, there isn't much difference in performance, battery life, noise, or reliability. While 5400 RPM drives have a slight edge in size (this 640GB vs. 500GB 7200.4), in real life, you would be hard pressed to know whether you were using either drive unless you saw a benchmark. There are obviously exceptions but looking on average, the differences are miniscule.

SSDs on the other hand are simply in a different category. The best SSDs can crush the best HDDs in performance, battery life, noise, AND reliability - but at a cost that is more than most consumers are willing to pay.

Oh, but iGrim excels at it. He's thread crapped numerous threads already with his insipid commentary and condescending attitude.

There's your first problem. You're stereotyping all 7,200RPM hard drives as being noisy and vibrating because you regret owning the 7,200RPM Hitachi you have for those very things.

I meant iGrim and MrButterBiscuits. As I said, on average 7200 RPM drives are not much louder or have more vibration than 5400 RPM drives. I understand your concerns, I've had drives that were loud too, but majority of users/HDDs do not have these issues.

i had 5400 drives make no noise or vibration. but this hitachi 7200rpm makes audible noise and noticible vibrations when under constant spin

That's fine. However, the problem is that you're attributing your negative experience with your Hitachi as being the same with every other 7,200RPM notebook hard drive out there. This is simply not true, nor is it an accurate assumption.

I'm just going to wait for cheap(less than $200) 320gb ssd's to come out...or until I run out of HDD space.

How many platters? 2 or 3?

I don't want any more than 2 platters on a notebook drive (note: Samsung has managed to squeeze three in on some models, and the resulting performance difference can be measured when compared to the competition or their own 2-platter designs).

The drive will probably debut at price premium for a bit as well. My 500GB Scorpio Blue cost me $80. It still amazes me --I can remember 30MB MFM and RLL drives, and Western Digital 40MB IDEs; and I can remember when $1.00-per-MB was an acceptable cost. And those drives weren't small in size, either --just in capacity.

if i wanted to make a biased blanket statement like you are insinuating then i would probably would have left the specific brand of the 7200rpm family hdds out

I'd rather wait for reviews first. I would hate it if they release early version with poor performance, then fix it with another release n firmware.

I am too lazy to clean the thread, plus the OP was advertising his own stuff anyway. I am going to close the thread. If I see some of you guys going OT and arguing for no apparent reason again, expect some infractions. I expect those of you involved have been around here long enough to know what not to do.
