Hi, i was wondering whether the monitor would be affected in the long run if the cooling fan was located at the back. Certain laptops i have seen tend to heat up pretty quick and the monitor part near the fan heats up as well.
Any comments are highly appreciated!

You both are wrong depending on the fan used
If you use an AC fan, one without impedance protection, you will cause a CRT screens to generate green/blue stripes which will run up the screen.
the best way to test the fan (if its AC) is to put it near a halogen light bulb. If the halogen light looks normal, than the fan will not interfere with the screen. If the halogen light starts striping (black sections will appear, and the light will wave through the tube), than you shouldnt use that fan near a CRT screen.
I made that mistake a few years ago and destroyed a perfectly good 23" CRT

a) the fan won't be AC because notebooks are exclusively DC.
b) the screen won't be a CRT because notebooks don't use them
Anyways, stray AC fields won't destroy a CRT either. -
Ah,
I thought he was talking about mounting a fan on a screen. LCD's dont get hot, so I assumed he wanted to put a fan on a CRT.
Never mind me than, I put a fan on my CRT and found out the hard way years ago
I need to get some sleep

Perhaps it's about the inverter?

ok i shall rephrase this
i was wondering,
because of the fan outlet directly under the monitor such as the dell studios and hp notebooks, would the heat from the fan affect the monitor in any way as the heat does travel up to the monitor. -
