I've got a Sony Vaio Z505rx...do you think upgrading the ram to 192 and the HD will do me any good? Right now when I play video clips it's choppy or does not play at all even at the lowest levels. It runs windows 2000 and firefox/thunderbird/excel pretty good.
Also when i use i-tunes with this machine it blew up the HD. After using it for a week to play music the HD makes a clicking noise. Is this the result of itunes needing to acccess the HD so often? Or if I get the new drive will it be cool?
Great Forum!
thanks

Could you please tell us the other specifications of your laptop? I am not familiar with older sony laptops.

YES!
I have a Z505R, and the RAM upgrade is the only thing that keeps it alive. -
It will help some. You don't need a fast CPU to play music or surf.

On top of that 40 gig HD, try to find out what kind of ram you have, and upgrade it to the best you can afford. www.newegg.com has good deals on notebook ram-for example- A Corsair 512 mb stick for 81 bucks (US). Also, unless you have a good reason, upgrade to xp. If you are a professional worker or something like that, well that phrase is self-explanatory-a good upgrade would be XP Pro.

You are limited to 128mb of upgrade RAM for a total of 192mb. Don't waste your money trying a larger chip; the BIOS won't let it boot. I tried a 256mb on my Z505R, no joy.
would you upgrade a Sony vaio z505?
