It really depends on what you are doing with your computer. but if those two combos are of the same price, I would go with t8300 and 3G ram. as 3G ram is enough for most applications and you can never have too much CPU power

    T8300 w/ 3gb

You can easily upgrade RAM and the OS later on. Upgrading CPU will void your warranty and isnt an easy procedure

    Ok, thanks.
They're nearly the same price, and I intend loading 64 anyway (even if only for bragging rights, but it will be a bit better no?)

not really, if you just do normal office work, watch dvds, t8100 is more than enough.

the crappy processor I have, clocks at 1.2ghz 99% of the time, instead of the 1.8ghz full speed. I have rmclock running all the time so I'm quite sure.

to the OP, get the t8300 if the two options are the same price, ram is real cheap now, difference between the t8300 and the t8100 is about $40.

You can go ahead with the T8300, but make sure to upgrade to 4Gigs of Ram to take advantage of the 64-bit Vista.

If you're not using applications that need CPU power, T8300 has no benefit over T8100.
