Hello, I want to upgrade my T5550 to a x7800 in my Gateway 6860fx. I've been told it works/ this upgrade will take.
Secondly I want to purchase the item off of ebay, from an ebay retailer/store.
Now my main questions are..
I made an ebay account and it shows that I must use paypal to buy the item. Is this method secure? I will be transacting over 100 dollars. I don't want to loose my money. Does paypal insure you?
The seller shows good reviews, but is based in Honk Kong. I'm still not clear if this is a wise idea or not.
Thank you,
Lykhan

The X7800 works in the 6860FX,
you may want to look at the T9500 for cooler running performance.
I have never used ebay, so I cant help you there

It will work fine, paypal is very secure, buy it from extremeprocessor, he is one of the best cpu sellers on ebay.

Extremeprocessor and sciencesart are both very reliable and quick sellers, I am 100% satisfied with my purchase.
-
He doesn't show any listings. I want to make sure that this product is "new".
That's my main concern. That I won't loose my 200 dollars.
Should I contact either one of them individually, to see if they have any that they've not posted? -
Also, I got mine from extremeprocessor on ebay. -
I really don't want to spend over the 215...
I also like how the x7800 has an unlocked multiplier. -
Forum member "DOOK" (he is now banned for criminal activity on the forums) stated and proved somewhere on nbr, that the 6860FX can overclock processors, but the system is capped at 3.00GHz regarless of what processor you use

i would go for the t-9300, clock per clock its about 10% on average faster then the X7800. plus you get better battery, lower heat output, more L2 cache, and overall better performance. i once had the x7800 (know have the t8300), the temp difference with the t8300 is about 25C lower with the t8300.

Don't worry about security; eBay/Paypal are so pro-buyer these days that it's impossible for a seller to screw you.

x7800 will make you happy. If you put the thermal paste right and undervolt it, you will get alot better performance, overclocking in the BIOS and very affordable upgrade.
-
when OCed to 3.0a the X7800 will be quicker than the T9300, but the T9300 will be faster at stock speeds, and cooler. Your choice basically.

Good to know! -

You can always go for the ultimate CPU and get the x9000. More powerful and cooler running than the x7800. Nothing else in this series of CPU can touch it
