I am looking at upgrading my current HD of 60g to hopefully 250/320. I have been looking at newegg.com but havent found any that look like they will match my pins.
My current HD has the 2 rows of 24 (minus the middle and the 2 on the end for 21) pins. Its the basic one that came with it....and i cant seem to find the specs anywhere online.. :/

I know this one does not fit it because it uses a different adapter then what i have
One post i found said "You can use any 2.5", 9.5 mm SATA drive you wish - up to the largest now available (320G). " in the m140 But that drive ^ (320GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s) is a SATA....so i dont understand that at all.
Basically if you can take the time to either explain what im looking for, or better yetfind a few examples from newegg/another site for me to see, then find my own, that would be much appreciated. If you need more information from me let me know.

Which HDD socket..?? Simple, user-friendly way, download PC Wizard 2008 and check out the Drivers Section.

You need an IDE drive, and the biggest size they are available in is 250GB.
Here's a link to one on newegg:

I believe my laptop can only hold one HD at a time..at least i didnt find another spot for one lol...but wow that program is pretty sweet...
Im assuming Drive Controller Features :
Mode : IDE
AHCI : No
Means i need the IDE?
Serial ATA : No
Support : ATA/ATAPI-6
I need to replace it with a similar one?
Whats the difference between ATA/ ATAPI-6 and SATA? is it mainly just due to its connector?
Thanks for the quick response help! -
Yeah, IDE.
You meant the socket pins like this.
SATA and IDE do have completely different connectors.
A good IDE HDD is the SAMSUNG HM160HC, and here is a Review of it.
Its quick, has decent storage space, and shouldn't be very costly.
(Just to be sure, post the model no. of your current HDD by looking up PC WIZARD again or HD Tune) -
Go for the samsung HM160HC for speed and cost effective, but if you need more space, go for the 250gb western digital drive.
The m140 should have no problem recognizeing 137Gb+ drives, so using either will be fine. The last time I checked, the 250gb drive was around $125 and the Hm160HC was like $70.
Both are excellent drives, which can outpace the 7200rpm drives for that interface.
The Hm160HC is the fastest harddrive for mobile IDE, and the 250gb 5400 from WD is the second fastest, and then the next fastest are the hitachi 7k100 and the seagate momentus 7200 drives.
Both are a good buy, so choose either of the two and your system will be much more responsive.

Model : Hitachi HTS721060G9AT00
Current HD. and yeah thats what the pins look like..lol i counted only one side to get 24and i need the space over speed, i believe mine is 5400 and it runs fast enough for all my needs. plus the extra space is very handy (dont have to lug around an external).

I had a 100gb Hitachi 7k100 and you can really feel the speed difference by jumping up to the Hm160HC. Go for the WD if you need the space, it will also be substantially faster than your old drive.
