So I know that if your RAM's speed is above your FSP, the RAM will be clocked down. Am I safe in assuming that if I used 675mhz RAM on a Merom, it'd be clocked down to 667mhz?
And also, how much difference can there be in the two RAM sticks for dual channel to work? I know they need to be the same speed. But, for example, can they be of different "types" as in OCZ's Value series paired with a Gold stick. Or even different companies? Does that work?
Lastly, I'm not quite understanding the pin count. I thought notebook pin count was 200 pin? But all I see on websites are 240 now, I can't even find 200. Does this mean notebooks all use 240? Or does it depend specifically on the notebook? I'm planning on using an Asus W3J or Z96J.

(1) Yes, it'll run at 667Mhz instead of 675Mhz unless you overclock the CPU.
(2) It's really just luck. Two completely different sticks may work (more likely if they're well below stock speed), and two near-identical sticks may not work. I wouldn't worry about it too much - even single-channel DDR2-667 can saturate Merom's FSB.
(3) Desktop DDR2 is 240-pin. Laptop DDR2 (SODIMMs) are 200-pin. -
Here is some 200 pin ram with DDR2 at 667Mhz. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...2910525+1309221136&Submit=ENE&SubCategory=381
