i did this using an old zv5000 i used a atheros wireless card from a toshiba p15 and got it working. For thoes of you who arnt farmiliar with hp and there wireless cards you can only use hp OEM cards ( there designed for hp's but still intel and broadcom ) if you dont have a correct card when you boot up it will say unsupported wireless card found remove to procced. basically to get past this after the splash screen this message would normaly appear so what i did was i took the card and had it in the socket but didnt push it down right after the hp splash screen i pushed it down so the system has all ready scanned and knows theres nothing wrong but windows see's it then and boots with it then you just install drivers and your set. ( untill the next reboot of course ) this really isnt practical just showing what you can do. ( as a side note does anyone know what the question mark is in my device manager tree i cant find drivers for it anywhere )

ok so i put 2 attachments of pictures not sure where they went but it basically was a picture of it in the computer and the computers device manager

OUCH,,, i'd be careful plugging hardware into a HOT (powered up) laptop.... it's much cheaper to buy a network adapter that will work for your situation that it is to replace a fried mainboard....
i'm not wishing you any ill-will,,, but want you to know what could happen as a result of such actions

There are instructions in the HP forum for how to patch the BIOS to get around the whitelist HP insists on inflicting on us. I'll let you hunt it down. Atheros chips are far superior to Broadcom and Intel but I'm not willing to go through the trouble of patching each time there's a BIOS update myself.
