There doesn't seem to be an owners thread for this model so I thought I start one.

What kind of memory does 8570p support? Also what is the difference between KHX1600C9S3K2/8GX and KHX1600C9S3P1K2/8G and is 1866 MHz supported or would it run on 1600 MHz? There doesn't seem to be any memory specific settings in BIOS (F.42).
I was thinking of getting one of these:
Kingston HyperX KHX1600C9S3K2/8GX 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) 1600 MHz DDR3 CL9 XMP
Kingston HyperX PnP KHX1866C11S3P1K2/8G 8 GB (2x4 GB) 1866 MHz DDR3 CL11

Just got a refurbished 8570p this Monday and so far it's a great little machine. Wrote up a quick review of it here: HP EliteBook 8570p Review - Laptop User Reviews
Officially, the i7-3520M supports up to 1600MHz RAM as per ARK Intel ( http://ark.intel.com/products/64893), though 1866MHz shouldn't have any issues. Not sure about 2133MHz though. -

Jarhead, thanks for this excellent review. Do you or your sister have any further feedback a month on?
I'm in Canada and the only panel options seem to be the 720p and 900p varieties. The notebookcheck review referenced in the OP suggests the 900p panel is excellent; has anyone else seen one in the flesh and care to share their thoughts?
Overall, it looks like a beautiful and capable machine, and a pretty darn good value. I'm surprised - and someone hesitant to purchase as a result - that there isn't more information (reviews, posts to this thread, etc.) about this model given it's been out for so long. Is there something I'm missing?
Edit: Also, does anyone know if the AMD Radeon HD 7570M can be shut down in favour of the HD 4000 (notebookcheck review says no), and whether the CPU can be underclocked to save power? -
Well, she has had no complaints since receiving it. So long as it works, she's happy.
Not sure about the 900p panel, but the 7570M won't switch off if you get that. And seeing that it's not that much more powerful than the HD 4000, I wouldn't bother. -
Any ideas where I can configure one of these machines? In Canada - and the US it would appear - these models don't seem to be configurable on the HP website. I would definitely want the 900p without the 7570M; with it I suspect the battery performance you saw would be significantly reduced.
Speaking of battery life, has HP significantly improved battery life since the notebookcheck review? They showed the wifi test at roughly 2.5 hours, whereas Jarhead's showed ~5.5-6 hours. Granted you had the slightly bigger batter and no 7570M... is that enough to explain the difference, or has HP done something else to improve it? -
Hi,
I've got a 8570p EliteBook with an i7-3740QM and the HD 7570M (8gb ram and an ssd/samsung evo).
For the most part I'm really happy with this machine, but one thing I'm not too happy about is: the fan and the noise it's making - while idling (more or less)/typing/browsing/...
I've got two options (running on AC, latest BIOS F.45 - which is no different to F.43 though...):
1) fan always on, where temperatures of the CPU are around 50° deg, GPU at 45°-50° deg.
2) fan always on (deacitvated in BIOS): now it's silent at first then the CPU goes up to 60° deg, fan kicks in, down to 50° deg, repeat. All within a minute or two. So that's rather annoying.
But most annoying of this all is this: the speed of the fan!
The lowest speeds for the fan are around ~2500rpm!! Why is this so high?! I really wouldn't mind a fan running at lower speeds; say 800-1200 rpm maybe. But this?
So that's why having the fan always on - while giving ok temperatures, I guess - still bothers me.
I've tried to manually control the fan somehow (besides tweaking energy settings, trying throttle stop and what not...) with the usual suspects (that HPFanTool worked "best"), but still I can't go lower than 2500 rpm or shut down the fan completely. So that's not of much use...
Is this even normal that a fan can't spin at a bareable/low speed?
From what I can tell, temperatures are fine for such a CPU (are they?), so don't bother with repasting..
Any ideas? Should I talk to HP and look if I can manage to get a different fan? Or is just the fan-controller (i.e. the software/BIOS) totally nuts?
Or is my machine really running too hot?
Thanks.

Just asking here, isn't there a thread for the elitebook 8470p?
