Hi,
Proud new owner of the new HP Elitebook X360
i7 - 16 GB / 512 GB SSD
Just found out, they're not including the WWAN card in production models.
All the hype said it would come with it![]()

HP.fi gives me choise of three models, one of them is listed with WWAN.
When I just search for that exact model, Z2W73EA, all the listings in different HP sites have their specifications tab empty.
You could check the service manual if there is only one display assembly and motherboard option (basically all of them would be equipped with antennas and m.2 slot) then it would be simple to fit one yourself. -
Does your EliteBook X360 comes with micro-sim slot?
If it does, try to open it (using pin) and check whether it have "pins" for reading SIM card (like in smartphone).
If it does, you can buy LTE module from and add it yourself. -
It's not always certain. Pop the machine open and check all three important bits are there: Sim slot, m.2/mpcie card slot and antennas.
Because I've run into a Lenovo that had a sim card reader, empty m.2 slot for wwan card but NO ANTENNAS INSTALLED. Only answer I got was "the next model will have the capability...." -
damn... X360 released in my country also non-LTE. I was planning to get it and add an LTE card later on.
-
That's why I said before, check the manual if there is only one display assembly so all the laptops would come with antennas.
-
I already read the service manual from this link : http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05386794
But I still can't find out which section notable as you said it was.
Could you please check it too? -
On page 5, "antennas on select models only" is not that promising...
But on page 52, two different display assemblies, FHD and 4k. If they made a separate display assembly that does not have antennas then it should have its own part number. Total of 4 different models.
Also on page 43 different motherboard models, none of them identifies as "no wwan slot or no sim card reader" - therefore I would say also all the motherboards have m.2 slot and sim card reader.
I don't claim to be 100% accurate but there is quite a good chance all you need is m.2 card and drivers. It's probably whitelisted so better get official one too.Starlight5 and xor01 like this. -

Antennas can be DIY installed anyway.
By the way, are both RAM and WLAN module onboard the motherboard in this machine?Last edited: May 4, 2017 -
Ah, ok, thank you for the explanation.
Yes, they both soldered. Only SSD and LTE module replaceable.
Btw, how to DIY install antennas anyway? from the service manual, it seems there's a factory-made little device attached to the LCD part.
If you mean connecting the anntena cables to the LTE module, yes it's easy. But that's assumming there's already antenna device on the LCD part.Starlight5 likes this. -

That's extremely sad. I was going to buy it at some point - but soldered WiFi adapter without WiGiG option is a giant no-no. To DIY install antennae, you need to disassemble display module, and put antennae on the inside of display lid, while guiding antennae cables through the hinges. It will be especially unpleasant since service manual doesn't cover the procedure. -
But as far as I know, if we buy a M.2 LTE module from ebay for example, it doesn't come with antenna + cables.
Will this work?

@xor01 it should. I personally ordered a second set of WLAN antennas, with long cables - because I want to install 5x antennas total (2x for WLAN, 2x for WWAN, and WiGiG antenna module) in the display lid which was designed to house 4x. I don't know which reception will be better - correct antennas in the lower part of the case, or WLAN antennas in the display lid - but neither will be as good as correct antennas installed in the display lid; still, it will work regardless. To understand if WLAN antennas are suitable for your LTE frequency, simply connect them to your WWAN module and run a few speed tests. Or skip it if you are not feeling adventurous enough, and just order a few antennas like in the link that allow easy installation, without the need to disassembly the whole machine.

Depend on the screen, some come with the antenna and some don't your best bet is to get the service manual and see what is included in your model.

Good news guys, it seems the non-WWAN already have antenna installed.
I was watching this guy's review video and at 02:05 mark, he showed us the empty slot for LTE module and there's 2 unused antenna cables. I'm so excited with this finding.
Btw, in my country, the model with i7 7600u + 16GB + 512GB SSD have a USD950 difference than the model with i5 7200u + 8GB + 256GB SSD.
Do you guys think this whooping USD950 price difference justified from performance comparison wise? -
Good news!
HP Elitebook x360 G2 (non lte version) has a pair of Antenna, sim-slot(it just blocked with dummy), and M.2 Slot as you may already know.
I only installed HUAWEI ME906s (same with LT4132) with HP driver for LT4132,
and it works perfectly. (You need micro U-sim)
Just be careful when pull out the dummy sim. It is pretty tight.
PS: FYI, this laptop seems to have whitelist for WWAN.
When I tried with LT4114, it was rejected from the boot.
So I bought LT4132. -
Thank you for your Info - quite good news! I like to do the same with my x360 G2. But could you please explain it for a dummy, how you removed the dummy?
Thanks a lot
