I believe you need the swsetup folder. I doubt you have that?
-
Do you have to create the partition first in windows?
-
I didn't. I copied the swsetup folder to a flash drive first, then completely wiped and reformatted the HDD during setup. The HP Tools partition was automatically created when I reinstalled some of the software, including QuickWeb - however, I used the software install tool from swsetup and not the stand-alone QuickWeb installer.
-
Question on the 4530s. Say if I want to replace the I3 with an I5 or even I7 in the future as an upgrade, does it have easy access for the removal of the cpu once you slide off the back cover?
-
Removing the cover does not give you direct access to the motherboard, only the ram slots and the HDD. I believe you will have to remove the bottom completely to access things like the CPU. Fortunately, there are no screws hidden under the microsoft sticker. But i would suggest just getting a new computer if you want to upgrade to an i5 or i7. Face it, an i5+integrated graphics is just pointless.
-
Okay, I made a bit of a gaffe overnight. I DoD wiped my HDD with plans of a clean reinstall of Windows 7 on a single partition instead of the two I had previously. Unfortunately, I forgot to disable ProtectTools and the biometrics on boot. So while I can reinstall Windows and access the laptop just fine, I can't make BIOS changes, and I'm not sure what will happen after the reinstall if I want to set them up again. I think if I reinstall everything, I can clear this up, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions?
ETA:I fixed it. -
Yeah swsetup folder is already exist. I installed all other required drivers/softwares comfortably except QuickWeb because it ask for Hp_tool partition which is not existing at the moment.
Suggest me in it.
Thanks. -
Ok. So quick question. Does your wifi button when you turn on the computer always start off orange, as in off? Is there a way to make it so when the computer turns on, it either is always on, or it remembers how you left it?
-
It remembers how I left it.
-
What bios do you have? And does it remember right when you turn on the computer? Mine will remember when I boot into windows, but like during startup, it doesn't.
-
what a bummer.
the 4530s 4gb i3 version is on sale at tigerdirect for $430, and hp confirmed with me that they are indeed no longer shipping these with usb 3.0
that kills the deal. they went backwards a generation.
I wanted this laptop. Now I have to wait for ivy bridge. -
I don't know about Bios's version.
Can you guide me how to make Hp_tools partition (which quickweb installer actually asking for)?
I have 500 GB hard drive with five partitions. -
I believe they still do. The one I ordered from newegg last sunday came in with it supposedly.
-
did you get the model with 4gb ram, or 2gb ram ?
xu015ut or xu016ut ? -
im completely confused here....I remember seeing an OFFICIAL HP document that said that it included a USB 3.0 port, but it never said where. It says I have a USB 3.0 host controller and root hub, so does that mean that mine has a USB 3.0? There are no markings whatsoever or the blue coloring that indicate that any of the USB ports are USB 3.0.
-
4 gigs, xu015ut. I can't say I have used it though.
I know. There are no markings. But I installed a driver and everyone says it is. I'm pretty sure they are. I want to try it though. -
If it explicitly says you have usb 3.0, then you have it.
I know the official document you're talking about-
Powered by Google Docs
You need to check the device manager to see if it says usb 3.0.
The device you should see is NEC/Renasas usb 3.0.
Anyone can install the usb3 driver from hp's website-
HP ProBook 4530s Notebook PC- Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver - HP Business Support Center
Even I was able to install the exe file on my MSI laptop, which doesn't even have usb 3.0. ... of course, i still don't have usb3 on my old laptop.
The exe file merely dumped a bunch of ini files in my system folder.
I've only seen 3 user reviews stating that there was no usb 3.0.
Could they just be dumb, and not know how to check the device manager ? -
fck it. I just ordered a 4530s core i3 for $430.
hope to god it has usb 3.0
i would have to be the unluckiest chump in the world to not get usb3, if everyone else is getting it, especially people who got it just a few days ago. -
On my 4530s the usb 3.0 port is on the left side next to the hdmi port
-
It may depend where its ordered from? The 4530s from newegg has the usb 3.0 port as stated in their description.
-
You got it from newegg right? The specs on neweggs website state that it DOES have usb 3.0. If for some reason yours does not you'll have an easy way to return it to newegg and get your money back. I think newegg and tigerdirect are selling the old stock and the old stock, apparently, has usb 3.0 in it. I think if you ordered directly from hp a configured laptop that must be built then you will loose out on usb 3.0. Good luck!
-
Same here, except I have the 4430s and I think XVVVZ has confirmed that as well.
-
Hey............any one plz guide me how to check USB 3 on Probook 4530s?
I installed the driver for it but don't know to check it practically. -
Start >> Control Panel >> Device Manager
look at very last item- usb controllers. expand tree.
it will say if there is usb 3.0 or not -
i got it from tigerdirect.
i know someone who bought it from compusa (same as tigerdirect) a few days ago, and got usb3.
the newegg specs for the 4gb version (same as what i bought) don't state usb 3.0
Newegg.com - HP ProBook 4530s (XU015UT#ABA) Notebook Intel Core i3 2310M(2.10GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory DDR3 1333 320GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi Intel HD Graphics 3000
however, it is not entirely incorrect either. it states 3 usb 2.0.
I did some googling, and the renesas usb3 shortage was due to initial sandy bridge repairs, compounded by earthquake. However, usb3 production picked up by April and May, and production was doubled to 6 million/month in June.
So there's absolutely no reason why they would continue to omit usb3 in the 4530s, especially with the huge buying power HP has.
still, crossing fingers hoping to get usb3. -
I expand it. the following details appeared.
Generic USB Hub x2 times
Intel 6 Series x2 times
USB Composite device x2 times
USB Mass Storage device x1 time
USB Root Hub x2 times.
So where is there USB 3.0?
Thanks. -
oh crap. You don't have it.
When you installed the driver, the installer dumped a bunch of .ini files into your Windows folder.
Assuming you did have usb3, after rebooting, Windows would have automatically detected the usb3 device, and installed the proper driver.
But you still do not have usb 3.0 listed in the devices, so you don't have it.
WHEN and WHERE did you buy your 4530s ? -
Oh !
My uncle gift it to me last week. He bought it from US. Don't know about seller.
By the way, how big is difference between USB 3.0 & USB 2.0? -
It shows as "Renesas Electronics USB 3.0" within the device manager
I used a usb 3.0 hdd to verify usb 3.0 function -
that might explain it.
might be newer stock which doesn't have usb 3.0
someone else posted a picture before...... this is what it looks like-
-
phdmaker's results might help confirm suspicions that HP has indeed removed usb 3.0 in newer stock.
or perhaps he just got one that was made during the shortage.
oh well. If there's no usb3, I'll just throw it on Craigslist for $450. -
Well........... kindly anyone reply to my previous query about how to install back QuickWeb as whenever I try to install it, installation interupted what there is Hp_tools partition there.
Kindly advise how to create that partition as I already divided the whole space of hard disk in 5 partitions. -
I've used esata, firewire, usb 3.0, and usb 2.0 and there isn't a noticeable difference when transferring small files. USB 2.0 will stream 1080p movies smoothly. Maybe usb 2.0 will stutter with 2k or 4k movies but for now its alright?
-
I was looking up the changes made in the BIOS update from July. This is what I found but I am not sure I really understand it:
"Provides support for Peak Shift"
Elsewhere, I found:
Provides the Power Control feature which schedules the peak shift period (when the system is operated on battery power only, even while connected to AC) and the battery charge period (when the battery will be charged). -
FWIW, here's a BUY.com listing (for seller Tiger Direct) of the 4530s (XU015UT) that states it has USB 3.0. Can't say that means you'll get it, but would be recourse for return if you don't.
-
Can anyone comment on the screen quality of the 4530s, particularly when displaying HD content? Obviously at this price point I'm not expecting to be blown away (and I don't need hi-res for multi-tasking), but I would like a reasonable or better than average display quality in this class (1366 x 768). How does the 4530 compare?
~~~
Any time I see something selling for a price significantly lower than comparable competitors I wonder "What's wrong with this picture?" Why is this business class HP selling for so much less than comparably equipped units from other makers? -
I like the screen a lot. This laptop really reminds me a lot of a mac book pro.
-
PIA! to update the bios. It reported wmi version incompatibility : ( Fortunately there is an option to update from a bootable usb drive which it creates. I had to dig up an old 256k usb drive that would boot as all my new 4gb 8gb and 16gb usb drives wouldn't boot.
Anyway I finally updated the bios with the usb boot option. No apparent improvements. -
the spec sheet says the matte is 300:1 contrast ratio.
glossy is 500:1.
in other words, it's average.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02844462.pdf -
I did it through windows, no big deal.
Does anyone have a problem where as they type, they accidentally hit the tracpad? -
With the double tap at the top left corner to turn it off easily, I often just turn it off.
What it hit more often is the fingerprint reader with the lower palm of my hand as I type. -
I don't have the tap to turn off set up. I may have to.
Edit: Confirmed that my Core i3 with 4 gigs of ram (it is the model ending with 15) has the USB 3.0 port. Ordered from new egg last Sunday. -
Specs are about what I'd expect at this price point. Specs aside, some supposedly comparable screens look better than others in real world usage. Since I'm having trouble finding this unit in a store to see in person, I'm just looking for feedback on general satisfaction with this unit's display.
Thanks for the reference link btw... -
lucky. seems like everyone on newegg is getting usb3.
I've only seen one 4 430s newegg customer say he didn't get usb3, after checking the device manager.
my 4530s is arriving monday. hopefully it's old stock.
everything up to $1100+ has this kind of crappy screen. I have yet to see a laptop that has 1000:1 contrast, like desktop lcd's do.
I've only seen a few complaints about the screen not having enough contrast. Those guys are probably just used to glossy screens -
I really do love this screen. I would not complain.
-
I certainly prefer a matte screen to a glossy one!
-
Just a follow-up to my on-and-off RAM test failures, if you ever get failures on these laptops, try unplugging all of your USB devices. One or more of them might cause the failures. Fingers crossed, that seems to be the problem for me.
If I plug things back in, bam, test fails. If I unplug them, no failure so far. How f-ing bizarre. I am very lucky I just happened to make the mental connection on this. It was pure luck.
I was holding out until the very end of my 45 day return privilege because this problem just seemed it should be solvable even though HP support said to return my laptop. I had Chinese last Saturday and just remembered my fortune cookie said not to make any big decisions for the next week. It has been one week as of today. Coincidence? Man, I guess I should have played those lottery numbers... -
Thanks for your comments.
If you see in product manual at Hp site for Probooks, they are not stating USB 3.0 there.
So expecting USB 3.0 looks to me weird now. -
I wouldn't worry about usb 3.0 too much. The only usb 3.0 devices that I've seen are hdd and external hdd cases. I have two wd passport 1tb usb 3.0 external drives in a portable drive like this there isn't much difference in performance. Where are the usb 3.0 memory sticks? That would be useful?
I first noticed 4530s with the i5 processor I was glad to find the 4530s with a i3-2310 which seems efficient for the price. Nice laptop for the money I am pleased. . . -
i would not be able to tolerate not having usb3. i expect more stuff to take advantage of usb3 in the next 2 years.
once you get a taste of speed, you never go back.
that's what happened when i went from 100mbit to gigabit ethernet.
realworld 10 MB/s vs 80+MB/s....... transferring whole hard drives over the network was a breeze.
