Regarding the Craigslist I think it would be fine. We have similiar sites where I live and most electronics that are brand new and being sold are priced so you save the tax (13% where I live!!!) $440 seems fair to me as long as you describe what happened and where you bought it. Heck I would buy it off you since every where is selling it for $480 (580 where I live.)

Can I put FHD AUO screen on 4530s? I hope yes because it is specified for 1600x900 screen and this one is with same connectors as 19200x1080 (I have already changed them and compared).
    Is anybody sure about this?

Anyone else not able to do a system restore because windows is unable to extract a copy of : %systemroot%\registration dest: ComPlusStaging?

I've looked all around and found no answer. Especially microsoft. this is quite a shame as system restore is quite important to me. what exactly caused this as the only thing i can suspect is windows update as I have never touched my registry nor used any registry cleaners nor do I have any viruses.

You might check to see if you are still eligible for free phone support from Microsoft and then give them a call to troubleshoot. I have found them fairly useful when talking to them by phone where you can exchange information in real time versus by email which just bogs down and they lose focus. I wouldn't pay for phone support but if you can get it for free I would give it a shot. Calling HP is going to be free but I was not impressed with their level of knowledge. They would probably just tell you to reload the operating system.

I never was as it seems that my computer had been sitting on the shelf for a while before I bought it, and I am not paying $50. Any ideas as to what caused this? Is it possible for me to only replace windows files using the system image or do i have to write over the whole hard drive with what is on the system image? I want to keep my current documents but not my current windows documents.

FWIW, I read in another thread that you can't use those disks on computers with OEM build/installs of Win 7. Something about the serial number/key will not be accepted. You have to use the HP recovery disks/partition. Do some research to verify that what I read is right though. What does HP support suggest when you call them?

could anyone with windows x64 home premium share their winre.wim file from the d:\hp_restore\recovery folder ?

Mine is missing, so i can't do an F11 restore. If you could upload to mediafire.com, or anywhere else, that would be great.

    thanks

I have a Swiss Gear backpack for my Dell XPS17 its a sturdy comfortable backpack I'd buy it again. I use a VMWare backpack (free?) from a training course its pretty nice and similar to the Swiss Gear backpack. I prefer the backpack rather than an attache case, better layout and protection and if you really need to hump the laptop a distance the backpack is comfortable.

    >>Man I am still shocked at webOS and the touchpad.<<

If I would have known about the closeout sale for $99/$149 yesterday, I would have bought one just for grins. Sure, it is a dead end product but it works well enough and for that price it would be fun to play around with for a bit. They sold out so fast at the places that dropped the price that HP now has the user base they needed in the first place.

Swiss Gear which is by Wenger is pretty good for the price. If you can find Victorinox's Swiss Army stuff on clearance or used off of Craigslist, it is really nice. They used to be independent companies with rights to sell "Swiss Army" gear but now they are part of the same organization.

Have any of you ordered the HP restore discs?

They're supposed to be free for the first 90 days after your warranty start date.

My 4530 came with win7 home premium, but they let me have win7 professional restore discs free. Will receive them soon.

They said no activation needed since all hp's are preactivated.

Has anyone tried restoring with these discs? Do they work without error ?

If anyone wants to get a free upgrade, just call hp business tech support, and tell them you can't make a restore disc with the built-in software, and they'll send any discs you want within the first 90 days.

    Looking for some feedback please.

Any owners have any negative experiences with the Atheros WiFi card included in the 4430s XU012UT or 13UT models?

The specs show it only runs at 2.4 GHz frequency up to 150Mbps. I run a mixed WiFi Lan with 5GHz on all other laptops and 300Mbps.

Will the Atheros card take a visible hit in throughput?

I really like this unit for its specs and price point. Lot's of value in it for a basic computing user (Office, email ,web surf, general work tasks).

I'm nearing a final decision and the 4430s is still my leading choice.

    Any thoughts/feedback is greatly appreciated.

I just got my HP Probook 4430s with Windows 7. It was all good for me until I connected an external monitor to the VGA out. It seemed like there was an issue with the resolution as the letters and images were little burred. I changed everything that I can imagine and nothing worked out for me.

I set the resolution to monitor maximum and set the refresh rate to 60, which is what it supports. It was a Viewsonic monitor and performed well with other laptops and desktops.

My friend who recomendded this laptop to me is having no issues. Both inbuilt and external monitor pictures are crystal clear, even after connecting to my monitor.

Is there anyone who has gone through this issue and got it fixed. I am really fed up trying everything possible under the sun to make things all right as this issue is killing my eye.

My suggestion would be to try another laptop/computer and connect it via vga to see if it is in fact your probook. If that does not work then it might be a faulty cable; buy a new one. Haha and if that doesn't work then try an hdmi if the monitor supports it. If all else fails then send it to HP assuming it is still under the standard manu warranty.

Well, I tried all these options except the HDMI as I couldn't find any HDMI supported devices.

It's still under the standard HP warranty and I am gonna call in.

I was wondering whether anyone in the forum was in a similar situation as me.

Just to make sure, you did look up the actual resolution of the external monitor and after plugging it into the laptop you did change the resolution of the laptop to that exact resolution setting, right?

    >>I would love to have Professional or something else on here!<<

I believe that most Windows 7 install disks contain the files for all versions of Win7 and that Win 7 only unlocks what you are entitled to based on the key code you enter. Unless you are getting a new key code, my guess is that you will not be able to get access to an upgraded version.

In case anyone gets confused with the latest updates from HP, Renesas is a company that merged with NEC so their USB 3.0 controller is appropriate.

The new Quickweb version appears to have fixed the time clock issue discussed earlier in this thread.

I'm getting confused with some ProBook models. I am looking for a i3-2310M and USB 3.0 for ~$600. The ones I found are either 4530s with i3-2310M + 4 USB 2.0 ports OR 4535s with AMD A4-3300M (less powerful) with 3 USB 2.0 and 1 USB 3.0.

I was referring to software/driver updates for people who already had a computer where the 3.0 driver was previously listed as an NEC.

I understand. I thought you (or someone else) could give me some insight on the current models with usb 3.0. For example, looking at the same model, ProBook 4530s XU015UT on two different websites:
    1. HP ProBook 4530s XU015UT Notebook PC - Intel Core i3-2310M 2.10GHz, 4GB DDR3, 320GB HDD, DVDRW, 15.6 Display, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit at TigerDirect.com
    2. Hewlett-Packard ProBook 4530s XU015UT 15.6" LED Notebook - Core i3 i3-2310M 2.1GHz - 1366 x 768 WXGA Display - 4 GB RAM - 320 GB HDD - DVD-Writer LightScribe - Intel GMA HD 3000 - Bluetooth - Webcam - Windows 7 Home Premium - 6.25 Hour Battery - HDMI

Website 1 states that there are 4 usb 2.0 ports, website 2 states that there are 3 usb 2.0 AND 1 usbo 3.0. So, who is correct? Is there a difference between older/newer models or is it pure mistake in the description on one of the sites?

AMD and Intel processors will use different chipsets/motherboards, so you can't expect them to necessarily be the same in terms of ports/outputs offered. Additionally, the Intel-based units started out with USB 3.0 but then dropped them. Nobody knows if this was a temporary thing and thus 3.0 will be back or if 3.0 will never be back on the Intels. To confuse things more, some websites have never updated their specifications. Newegg still has USB 3.0 listed for the 4430s but there is a good chance the laptop might arrive without it. The AMD chips show promise but they are too new and I have had bad luck with AMD stuff so I would want to wait until the second generation of their A series. If you don't need USB 3.0, a 4530s from Newegg is quite the deal for a 15 incher.

That's what I though, just from the way that person said it, it sounded like he did.

If you get a laptop without 3.0 and it says it should have it, you can return it.

    Hello everyone,

I'm hesitating between a 44/4530 and a HP Envy 14. My laptop will be used mainly for professionnal purpose, and sometime to do some webbrowsing in the sofa. I already own a desktop, so i don't mind too much if crisis can't run on it.

I really love the Probook for the metal case, but like the envy, i'm quite disapointed with the 1366x768 screen (it was previously announced in France with a 1600x900 screen, but it seems to be a mistake).

So guys, can you tell me how is running your Probook and if you're still happy with it?

Oh, by the way, i'm looking for a Probook gallery, do you know where I can find it?

    Cheers!

Here's a gallery of the 4530s: HP ProBook 4530s Review

I just got a refurb Dell Latitude and I'm thinking about getting a refund and buying the 4430s. What made me choose the 4430s was the screen size. I heard some bad things about the Envy like sucky screen, etc.

Hi everyone, I'm an happy owner of a 4430s ProBook.

I have choose it after a long long seeking, and by now I can say that it would be "the perfect pro-book" if only there was the possibility of have a backlit keyboard and the full support for the sandy quadcore cpu.

Anyway, I've made some changes on it:
-installed a 2720QM ES (8Mb cache) instead of the original 2310m
    -installed 8Gb Kingstone HyperX 1600 CL9
    -installed OCZ Vertex 2 180Gb
-replaced the DVD drive with a HD caddy (WD Scorpio 500gb placed in)

At the end, for a total cost of ~ 850€ I can now have a 14" workstation-like perfomance notebook.

In the attached pics you can see some quick reference for performance.

    @mimitran: Thanks for yhe link.
@Hopper82: Good improvement. Especially the SSD and the optical bay replacement. I will surely do the same once I will have mine.

Do you know if any of the probook are available (soon or now) in 1600x900? It seems here in France the datasheet are just a translation from EMEA and we don't have the same specs. I'm really interested in a Probook but only in 1600x900.

@mydriaze: I think that you should search for the 6 series probook. The HD+ LCD Panel should be available for the 6560b (15") and for the 6460b (14") models, that are pretty the same of the s series, just some more expensive. But I don't know if these model are proposed for the french market (for example I had to buy my 4430s in the US 'cause it was not available for the italian market)..

    Nice upgrades!

    >>and the full support for the sandy quadcore cpu<<

I have wondered about the possible upgrade options other than the i5-2410M model that comes in some versions of these laptops already, but I really haven't done much research yet. What support is lacking for the CPU you installed?

How much hotter does it operate in your laptop? Are you confident the standard cooler will be adequate? How is the battery life compared to the 2310m?

That CPU is expensive here in the US at places like Amazon and Newegg at almost $400. Ebay has one at $170 but it would come from Japan. It seems most 2nd generation Sandy Bridge are hard to find retail these days. I guess OEM laptop manufacturing channels are sucking them up as fast as Intel can make them.

is the Probook 4530 customizable? It didn't show up that way on the HP site. I want i5 processor and upgrade display resolution. I was trying to comare this to the Pavillon 6vdt (and Lenova Thinkpad which is the other one I'm considering).

HPs web site will let you configure a model. Also, the series is easily upgradeable at home.

Please, can anyone confirm, that HD+ display presented in Probook 6560b fits without any problems into Probook 4530s?

Having in mind equall approach to all people in all countries, fair play, etc.. So how come HP offers in South Corea 1600 x 900 display in 4530s but all other countries must be happy with 1376 x 768? Sounds discriminating to me.

    Evidence:

    HP ??? 4530s ??? PC ?????

Google translate corean HP web page

I would love to have HD+ as well, but HP says by this approach that i am not good enough customer to offer it to me. That's not fair and as i see it, it puts bad light on HP trying to push us to buy more expensive 6x60b series (with weaker GPU). Maybe we shall start asking HP representatives how is this possible and why they discriminate us.

The problems with my 2720QM are just some "minor" issues:
-notebook cannot handle correctly the restart procedure. After windows shut down, machine won't boot up. (3 blinks on caps lock led, that should indicate a memory problem but situation persist also with only the original 4gb bank 1333 ddr3 installed, so I think that the message it's not trustable)
-sometimes it don't -really- turn off, windows shut down correctly but power led still remains lighted, so it's necessary to keep it pushed 3 sec to manually force the power off. But I think this problem is linked to the HD caddy, seems that if there's two HD installed sometimes bios won't pass completly the shut down procedure.
-Machine randomly power off on full heavy load (i.e. prime95), not for a temperature issue ('cause temperature never goes over 80-82 degrees), but I think for a lack of power supplying, seems the 2720qm reach the maximum ampere value set in the bios spec.

Regarding the other stuff, I just modify the original cooler by adding a 0,35mm copper plate to be sure that all the cpu core area is covered (this modify just take 20min of time and 4€ of copper..), in this situation cpu never goes over 80-82 degrees even with high load of work.
Battery life is 10-15% (max!) less than with the original 2310m.

My 2720QM ES (Q154) comes from ebay, you can find it on laptop monkey store (uk seller that also ship to US) at ~ 180$

Mine is a standard one bought on ebay from china ($20), you have to use the original cover plate of your dvd drive.

if you want I can give you ebay item number.

Same here. I alreday called some representatives, and the answer is still the same: not available in our country (France is mine).

I'm a bit fed up cause I don't like the 6x60/6x50 series, but that's the only one available at reasonable price with a HD+ Screen...

That is an interesting theory about the second drive being a source of the problem. Have you changed the boot drive options in the BIOS? Are you running the latest BIOS that was released a few weeks ago?
