I grabbed myself another Folio 13 (Waiting for a Windows 8 tablet but this will do until then) and decided to re-paste the cpu.

Warning: Follow the maintenance manual to the letter and go slow! Remove the 16 screws, gently (Using nails or a very soft flat head) and from the right side just next to the usb slot, gently prise away the top metal section. Don't pull all the way out as you'll probably break one of the 4 ribbon cables. Work around the machine with your nails or soft flat device (Credit card might also be ok)

Using a slight bit of force push out the keyboard (as per the manual). Don't be afraid but you will have to add a bit of force. Once it's out a little bit the rest will follow. Gently dissconect the keyboard/light ribbons. You'll get the rest.

The heatpipe and fan isn't really up to the task with the machine hitting above 70c just running the WEI (Windows experience index) test. After applying Artic five it's hitting around a max of 63c. Yay.

Is it worth it? Yes and no. The fan does actually stay 'off' for very, very short periods. If you're having heat issues then yes do it otherwise leave alone.

Update: Just finished tweaking, 36 running processes, idling at 40c, the fan is STAYING off (ish) :) WooHoo no more leaf blower. Next is a clean install

Update 2: The fan now turns off and on again like it should. Typing this now, no fan... it's off. Silent machine. Playing a video and the fan turns on, then off few seconds after the video stops. Very happy as I now have a quiet Ultrabook for typing.

I have the HP Folio 1020US ... all version can be upgraded if you don't mind opening up your notebook and possibly voiding the warranty. I purchased this ram at Amazon for $45

    Corsair 8 GB Module (1x8GB) DDR3 1333MHz PC3 10666 204-Pin Unbuffered C9 Laptop Memory CMSO8GX3M1A1333C9

    Amazon.com: Corsair 8 GB Module (1x8GB) DDR3 1333MHz PC3 10666 204-Pin Unbuffered C9 Laptop Memory CMSO8GX3M1A1333C9: Computers & Accessories

you can also get the kingston brand if you want to pay more but Consair from my research is just as good.

you'll need the Maintenance Manual PDF http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03177433.pdf and the proper screw driver. trust me don't just use any screw driver. I was using the correct screw driver and still managed to strip a screw. had to order a replacement screw.

Once you get the screws out follow the manual and go slow, everything is extremely small. its good to have a box of wooden or plastic tooth picks, a plastic tweezers handy and a flash light available. I was able to get to the RAM socket (its a standard release latch for it) without taking off everything. Using a toothpick is was able to release the old ram and pull it out with two fingers. Then reverse to insert the 8gb ram.

If you're patient and follow the instructions pretty much anyone can do it. System detected the ram with no problem, battery life, heating etc... all the same.

I'm still debating the hard drive swap, i'm monitoring email for a good deal on a 100x 128gb SD card a lot cheaper and don't have to deal with mirroring the drive or driver issues

my fan rarely comes on but what i've noticed is if the screen it tilted all the way back it increases the chance of the fan coming on because it blocks 50% of the vent on the back.

I have Folio 13, and I like a lot. But there is one thing that annoys me. The Keyboard leaves “fingerprints” on the screen. When I type, the fingers leaves fat on the keys, and when I close the lit it transfers from the keys on to screen. The result is that you can see the keys marks on the screen.

Poor design or is it just my laptop?

    Stay away from fat!

I suppose it depends on how you carry the machine. On my old ENvy 13 if you carried it with your hand just over the hinge it was fine but in the middle and you bent the screen straight onto the keys. Either way you just simply clean it
