I'll have the Dreamcolor-specific calibration device (HEB1F63AA) on Monday. Not sure what exactly it does differently, but I've heard it may not be a simple profile generator (possibly changes the monitor's "internal" calibration). It's based on the i1dpro, which is known to be a solid performer, so I expect it to work well.

Thanks. My observation so far is that Blu-ray's look amazing but normal webpages look kind of dull.

Forgive my ignorance - is the Zbook 15 able to accommodate 2 x 2.5" SSD drives *and* a DVD drive or would I need a 17" to use that combination?

Zbook 15" has 1 mSATA and 1 2.5" drive slot. Also, the DVD drive can be used to house another 2.5" drive (SSD or HDD).

ZBook 17" has 1 mSATA, and 2 2.5" drive slots. Also, the DVD drive can be used to house another 2.5" drive (SSD or HDD).

Trying to decide whether to return my Zbook 15. I often buy refurbs if the price is right and that's what I did this time after finding one with the IPS dreamcolor display. After a few days of installing things I opened up word to write some correspondence and noticed a color cast in the bottom right hand corner. It's about the size of your little fingernail and pink. There is a 1/2" x 2" slightly noticeable blue cast above that. Depends on your angle, but the small pink area doesn't change unless you are 10' away. I ordered two of the zbooks predecessors (8560w I think) last year and returned both of them for color cast problems. Those involved the same area but on both sides.

I know there have been problems with this display (LG makes them, Dell doesn't offer them anymore) but I was hoping that maybe things had changed.

I guess my question is: does anyone have the Dreamcolor display on a zbook and NOT have this problem? If that's the case I should ask them to replace the screen.

If not and the cast is on all of them and just part of that particular display's characteristics then I have to decide whether I want to live with it or return it. And that would be a shame as the colors are nice and true, not gimmicky, easy to calibrate. Dang.

I have a $$ IPS desktop display NEC 2090uxi but I really need an IPS on a workstation notebook because I am unable to sit for extended periods of time and I don't want to give up photoshop.

Did anyone try to copy a full 3TB HDD to 4TB HDD in win7. I have all the windows and zBook updates installed, latest BIOS 1.08 from April

I received my 16 GB DDR3L and a WD Red 4 TB yesterday and installed the RAM. I connected the 4TB to a full 3 TB WD Red for backup via two USB 3.0 to SATA converter.

The first 20 - 30GB I had no problems, but then the transfers stopped every ~10s and stopped for 6 - 10s to start again, but not the same times, it varied. Transfer speed is not constistan sometimes 60 MB othertimes up to 120 MB. After ~70 GB it would stop copying. I set the explorer priority to high and it continued to copy but still the stopping. I noticed the same on my 8560p, but it never got to a total halt.

Any idea what to look for/try?

I haven't tried yet to copy several TB from one external USB disk to another external USB disk using the ZBook 15 but I already have copied about 110 GB using Windows Explorer from USB to USB. I didn't have any problems doing that. The transfer speed was not constant either but this is normal because I copied a mix of very large, larger and smaller files. I experienced no stopping / restarting.

It is hard to tell what the root cause for your problem might be. In case you are using an USB hub I would try to connect the disks directly to the Zbook. In my experience cheap USB hubs often can cause these kind of problems.

Also when you say you have similar problems with the 8560p except that it does not go to a total halt this is not normal either. It sounds as if your USB3/SATA converter cables have some issue.

I had stability problems (random disconnects) with some cables and also with some harddisk enclosures last year. In my experience my problems were fixed when I switched to UAS capable USB 3.0 harddisk enclosures and UAS capable SATA/USB adapter cables. UAS means "USB attached SCSI" (see USB Attached SCSI - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). The protocol is called "USB Attached SCSI Protocol" (UASP).

Most older adapter cables and harddisk enclosures do not support UAS / UASP even if they support USB 3.0. UAS support makes the biggest difference when connecting SSDs to USB 3.0. Without UAS you won't get the full performance of the SSD over USB 3.0. But in my experience UAS also results in more constant transfer speeds and less CPU load when copying from HDD. Especially if both USB devices are connected to the same USB controller like in this case. Well I'm not sure whether UAS support fixed my stability problems or whether the newer chipsets in the newer hardware fixed it. Anyway it works now as far as I can tell. At least I have not seen any USB issues with the ZBook 15 yet.

In Windows 8.x you can see in device manager whether your USB disks are using UAS:

    UAS_in_Win8.1_device_manager.png

The problem is that only Windows 8.x supports UAS out of the box. Windows 7 does not. When using Windows 7 you would have to find a UASP driver first.

    Fenrisulfr thank you,
All files I copy are around 1.5 TB in size so the speed should remain constant, but not stop.
I have SATA 6 GB/s supporting bridges, but I have not checked if the ones I used today already support UAS/UASP.WHat type and Bridgechip are your cases?

I disconnected the drives from my USB 3.0 and used the left rear USB 3.= connector same problem.
When I changed from my right to my left USB 3.0 port it continuous to copy but still 1.5 TB to go, and it still takes the breezer stops in between.

So now I have to find a way to check USB 3.0 ports.
Unfortenutely there is more to chec besides the controller/USB 3.0 ports, I mean cables, USB 3.0 Bridges and the Hub
    .
Once I have made the backup and find the time I'll check how win7 behaves if I use
    an expresscard USB 3.0 controller
    an SATA expresscard controller and
firewire 400/800 expresscard and if I use just USB 2.0 and see if it also stops too after 70 GB or so.

Do you have used the Thunderbolt port and can recommend a TB to SATA bridge?

Nothing special. One with a metal casing I bought last year from Conrad.de is this model: A-Tec HD323S3A
It uses the ASMedia ASM1053E chip which supports SATA 6G and UASP. I got them as a replacement from Conrad for other ones which didn't support UASP and where based on JMicron chips.

Later I got also two no-name cases from a local dealer which are using the newer ASMedia ASM1153E chip and which are working for me too with UASP. Also I have a external 2.5" Seagate Backup Plus 2 TB disk and StarTech SATA/USB 3.0 converter cables where I don't know which chips they are using but both support UASP as well.

No I have not used the Thunderbolt port yet.

I noticed a pinkish color cast in both bottom corners of my DC display, the left side is very minor and not visible unless a full white screen. The right side covers a bit larger area - fades out across roughly 1 square inch. But again, it's not usually noticeable unless displaying a large solid-color screen (light colors). After maybe 24 hours of screen use, they have gotten less noticeable, so maybe give it a little time. I also have a little light bleed along the top of the display, but only visible in very dark or black colors. From what I've read, these defects are common, so I was prepared to live with them. I do a lot of photoshop and video editing and have not been bothered by anything.

Did anyone else also experienced this (poor) built quality?

    IMAG0385.jpg

Guess the little rubber cap that is just secured by it's shape just fell off, luckily I found it and it could be put back into place easily. Too easily because just swiping past it with a nail causes it to come off again.

I have an update on my use of the HP DreamColor Calibration Solution (i1Display3 Pro w/ DC logo). I purchased this from B&H because I was certain the stock calibration was significantly oversaturated, even in sRGB mode, and grayscale was a bit tinted (heavy on the red), and I'm happy to report that recalibrating was relatively simple (despite the nearly complete lack of directions!). Upon installing the software, I was told that the monitor required recalibration (despite the fact that my "hours to calibration" in MDA is over 9000), so maybe it knows how old the factory calibration is (if there even was one, which I'm not so sure about). After applying the calibration (I think it applied automatically, but I also clicked "sync after calibration" in MDA to make sure it was applied), I see a very noticeable drop in saturation and the color cast in whites is gone. Looks much better! For what they charge, this device should absolutely come bundled with the ZBook. I must say, while it wasn't terrible, I'm surprised how off the calibration was - I expected better from a premium product like this, but what else is new?

The automated patterns looked a bit more advanced than what I recall seeing from my old i1D2. I plan to check the calibration with HCFR when I get a chance, since it doesn't provide any deltas when it finishes, but this looks acceptable for most work (still maybe a tad oversaturated, but I need more time with it).

Glad yours worked out Avidhiker. I used my Spyder4 Pro with no beneficial results. After the technician spent two visits with two replacement displays I threw my hands up and got a RMA. I couldn't justify the high cost and having to look at the pink corner and slight clouds coming from it. Dang shame as it's a great workstation otherwise & you know the technology is out there. Give HP credit for trying though.

I can also report that I purchase the HP DreamColor Calibration Solution from B&H. I was hesitant to spend $250 but wasn't satisfied with the HP calibration software that comes preloaded. I can say that its a simple process and I'm very pleased with the results.

Do you have any articles, proof, verification, links or chat windows showing that "Oh, and even the non-dreamcolor now come with an IPS display"? I would love to read/see them........Thanks

The specs you are looking for are listed in this pdf on page 10. Here is an example of one of the smart buy configs that come with that display. Note that some models do still have a TN panel, they are advertised as SVA in the description.

Oh, and when I say IPS I really mean IPS/AHVA/MVA. LG owns the IPS term, but the other technologies are all a similar design. You may indeed get an LG panel if you order one, but it is just as likely to be an AUO or Samsung panel with the similar design.

so in short FHD SVA = TN; FHD UWVA = IPS or equivalent; problem is that there are other specs floating around too, such as 'FHD WVA"

I expected the connector type, specifically eDP, to suggest and IPS screen (as per "15.6-in, FHD, AG, LED, UWVA (1920×1080 resolution, 300 nits, 72% CG slim), non-DreamColor (3.8-mm flat design, eDP panel) with camera"); but I have encountered "FHD SVA eDP" too; go figure

Before I decided to buy the ZBook 15 I also looked into the available display options and according to various HP documents there are three display options:

    1. FHD SVA eDP, AntiGlare
    2. FHD UWVA eDP, AntiGlare
    3. FHD DreamColor UWVA eDP, RGB, AntiGlare

So all got eDP. In the end I bought the ZBook 15 model F0U61EA and it comes with the UWVA display. While for example the somewhat cheaper model F0U59EA comes with the SVA display. I don't know which one is better in reality.

According to the HP Performance Adivsor tool the panel type of my ZBook 15 is a "AUO11ED" made by AU Optronics. I found a review of it here:
Review HP ZBook 15 Workstation - NotebookCheck.net Reviews

The review says that it is an: AU Optronics B156HW01 V1 ID: AUO11ED, IPS, glossy: no

I don't know how they mapped the AUO11ED designation to the model number "B156HW01 V1". But something is wrong there. Because according to AUO B156HW01 V1 Overview - Panelook.com the B156HW01 V1 is a TN panel. On the other hand I cannot find any confirmation there that a AUO11ED is indeed identical to the B156HW01 V1.

I could not justify the price of the DreamColor display for me and I was unsure about HP's SVA vs. UWVA. In the past I would have prefered SVA panels over TN panels. But it appeared that the SVA display is used only in the cheapest models of the ZBook 15 and I have not found any review of a ZBook 15 with the SVA display option.

Anyway, the above review of the panel says the UWVA is an good/ok panel (average if you will) which is good enough for me (I'm a software developer). So that I decided to get a ZBook 15 model with the UWVA display. Which I have now. I can confirm that it got very good viewing angles which are way better than the TN panels I owned in the past. Whatever technology it is.

    [EDIT]
I forgot to mention that the specs of the various ZBook 15 models with the UWVA display in the HP online store sometimes read: " FHD UWVA IPS eDP display". For example for the model F0U69ET:
    http://store.hp.com/GermanyStore/Merch/product.aspx?sel=WKS&id=F0U69ET&opt=ABD#merch-tech-specs

Sometimes they read: " FHD UWVA eDP display". For example for the model F0U61ET:
    http://store.hp.com/GermanyStore/Merch/product.aspx?sel=WKS&id=F0U61ET&opt=ABD#merch-tech-specs

So maybe there are different "UWVA" displays...?

Thanks for the update. Irony is, some US models list just a ""FHD WVA display" without either the U or the eDP...

I just received my Samsung UHD u28D590 monitor and connected it via the display port.
UHD only and/or HD on zBook and UHD via DP works with the w7 default driver. I also installed the launch monitor driver that I downloaded from Samsung, which allows to select between the two GPU.

The zBook is getting warm, shows about 14 % CPU load and only 2% for the programs.
I was looking for UHD Demos and found several, but all seem to have only the low refresh rate, none I found allowed to test 60p.

First verdict UHD 4K Canon EOS-1D C ULTRA HD ( - RINNE - ) Prajna Paramita Hrdaya Sutram (Sanskrit), google earth at UHD or Libre office 3 or 4 pages in parallel the same or taking screenshots at UHD just awesome.

However that is not all, since there is more to just pictures and zoomed letters. Normal stuff like letters, icons look fuzzy, and I have to agree now with what I've read before from others trying to work with UHD.

Letters, icons from the desktop and programs look fuzzy, for a lack of a better word. I took a picture with my digicam and pixel are black and white, but the effect I see is as I read in reviews just nerving.
I wanted to have space for two pages in parallel plus having space for the explorer, and a few other programs, or to be able to take a UHD screenshot instead of having to patch them together, and therefore wanted a UHD display badly.

While it's nice to know that the zBook 15 works with UHD displays, I doubt that 28" is large enough to work with since windows and programs do not support UHD, and for older programs never will, incl.windows 7. I#LL give it a few days testing.

After spending a CONSIDERABLE amount of time troubleshooting why Mobile Broadband fails to find a signal, I've learned that it is not compatible with the Dreamcolor Display. Unless I'm the only one who has configured a Zbook with these two options, I'm at a loss to explain why HP hasn't corrected this problem on their site.

Update: I was told today by my salesperson that the site is being updated so that when the Dreamcolor display is selected, the Mobile Broadband option will be grayed out.

2nd Update: I was refunded the cost of the Dreamcolor display even though I elected to keep the display and purchase a third party mobile broadband USB card. First class move by HP Sales.

The "Maintenance and Service Guide" for the ZBook 15 has (also) detailed instructions on how to replace the graphics board.

But it is in the chapter for "Authorized Service Providers" which starts with this warning: " Components described in this chapter should only be accessed by an authorized service provider. Accessing these parts can damage the computer or void the warranty."

FYI: Since I could not find answers to the questions like e.g. which drive size or interface version are supported in external thunderbolt (TB) devices, I asked them in a seperate threat since it should be also interesting to zBook 17 owners.

I would appreciate any information/experience you are willing to share, since I found nothing except has x USB, y (e)SATA and z Fw800 ports. But life got more complicated with HDD larger then 2 TB, newer SSD features implemented in SATA 6.0 just to name two not defined limitations to making the most out of attached storage devices.

    Here is the thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...ta-storage-drive-size-interface-versions.html

I have the ZBook 15 with K1100M graphics board and the HP 2012 Advanced Docking Station. I have connected one external 24" Dell monitor to it.

I just booted Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS (64 bit edition) from a MicroSDXC card using the built-in SD card reader. In UEFI hybrid boot mode it shows up as "SD (UEFI)" in the F9 boot device menu.

The Ubuntu Desktop got displayed on both screens and the internal and external display are also shown in the display settings. Ubuntu detected my Dell monitor correctly.

But there is a strange problem with the mouse cursor when on the external Dell display. It kind of leaves copies of the mouse cursor pointer image all over the screen when you move it. Kind of like footprints. Then when I click on the desktop or something they disappear again. This does not happen when the mouse cursor is on the internal display.

    Hello guys,

    I will order HP ZBook 15" ( F2P85UT )

What is the run time battery life of the laptop? On this review it stated 7:46 hrs?

But I need to buy also:
    - 8 GB Ram
    - HP slice battery, so I can extend the lifetime to 14 hrs they promise, is that right?

Can anyone please advice what is the type of the Ram I should buy?

Also, is there any information about the slice battery?

Samsung is what my z shipped with. Samsung is what I had from a previous unit and is what I had always intented to add to the z to make 16gb. they are not the same model #, though they are the same specs. Samsung MV-3T4G3D/US

    A quick question,

Which one is better ZBook 15" vs M4700? And what is the price for each one? (Official site price seems ambiguous)

    Thanks

I believe the results in this review:
Review HP ZBook 15 Workstation - NotebookCheck.net Reviews

are closer to the reality. Although they had the somewhat bigger 83 Wh battery in their review sample. Many Zbook 15 configurations are sold with the smaller 75 Wh battery.

You can buy any DDR3 SO-DIMM which supports at least 1600 MHz clock rate (= 12800 MByte/sec data rate) and 1.35 V (low voltage). Either 1.35V only modules or modules which support 1.35V and 1.5V will do. Don't buy old 1.5V only modules. It is not worth the trouble.

Anyway the SO-DIMMs you could buy are usually labeled "DDR3 L-1600" or "PC3 L-12800S". Both labels mean the same thing. The "L" stands for low voltage.

For example I bought Crucial Ballistix SO-DIMM 8GB, DDR3L-1600, CL9. The "CL9" label is the CAS latency rating. You could also buy CL11 rated modules. There are a bit slower but you wouldn't notice the difference.

I don't know about the slice battery.

The ZBook 15 is better. The Dell M4700 is an old model from 2012 with 3rd generation Intel CPUs and chipset (Intel Ivy Bridge). The ZBook 15 has 4th generation (Intel Haswell). The current equivalent Haswell based workstation from Dell would be the M4800.

But does it really worth the whole 700$ difference?

This is ZBook 15" I am looking for With price 1700$ + 50$ for another 4G Ram (Ram price almost the same as amazon)

And this is the M4700 I am telling you about With price 1050$

Please see the two models and see the spec for each one, you will notice that Dell specs the same as HP and sometimes double...
So, can you please check and tell me your opinion?

    Thank you very much

The link to the M4700 deal doesn't work. I guess I'm too late. But this sounds like a good deal.

I did not pay $1700 for my ZBook 15 though. Only about $1500 here in Europe. Also I got the better UWVA panel (see panel discussion above), the K1100M graphics, a 750 GB hard disk and a 32 GB SSD for that price.

The M4700 it is about 0.5 kg heavier and almost 1 cm thicker than the ZBook 15 and the internals are 2 years old. But still the M4700 deal sounds good. Though I don't know which panel option it included and I have never used the M4700. Only the M4800. So I cannot recommend one over the other.

I am a proud owner (since months) of the HP ZBook 15,
    Core i7-4800MQ, 8GB RAM, Samsung 256GB SSD, Quadro K2100M (F0U65ET#ABD)

(Display Samsung unknown modell SDC5344 said HWINFO64.)

    I replaced/added:

    - the memory with 32GB Corsair DDR3 L-1600CL9
two kit of "CMSX16GX3M2B1600C9" memory (a little tricky with the keyboard)
    - HP lt4112 LTE/HSPA+ card
    - Intel AC 7260 Wireless card

Still happy with this NB, hope it will works without problems the next years.

    Only one negative point:

my Display has a afterglow with games like minecraft - not recommend this nb for gaming!

For work the Display looks very good like my monitors from eizo.

    Question:
Does the Zbook support DevSleep for the Samsung 850pro ssds ?

    DevSleep needs:

    1) Haswell = o.k.
    2) Chipset = ?
    3) maybe Bios must support it = ?

I bought the ZBook 15 with Dream Color and I am very disappointed. The display has red/green color tinting in the corners and the company says that this is just what these models are like. A whole week of a tech coming over to fix it and then 2 weeks of my laptop being in depot... A waste of $2500 and a month of time. :( I was really excited about this too!

Curious how there are no professional reviews which mention this defect, however a simple google search quickly brought it to my attention before I even went ahead with the purchase. It's a very common complaint for the 15, not so much for the 17 it seems. Anyway, the tinting on my screen is only visible on solid, light (mostly white) screens. It really has little to no effect on photo or video editing, IME. I thought this was a helpful response from another thread:

    Hi there!
thanks for this informative threat! Took me some time to get through it...

Since end of June I own a zBook 15 (D5H42AV-Topconfig). It came with i7-4700MQ, K2100M, 1x 8GB Ram, 512GB SSD SanDisc 2,5'', FHD UMVA (non-Dreamcolor). Was quite reasonable priced compared to other Configurations, where I sometimes don't understand price-politics at all. Well: all in all I'm pretty happy with it,
maybe beside the cheap seemingly DVD-Drive and the modern "15,6 Wide-Screen-format" which is not high enough.

    Additons i've done:
In order to run Dual-Channel i've added a second 8GB-Ram underneath keyboard.
On both of my workplaces i run a Dell U2713HM-Monitor on DP-Port.

Since i'm running out of harddiskspace i'm planing to add a mSATA SSD currently considering between Crucial CT480M500SSD3 (480GB) and Samsung MZ-MTE1T0BW (1TB).

    My Questions:

1.) Since there are some of you, who allready have added mSATA-SSDs: Do you have experinces with temperatures, more fan-usage (=noice) ore other maybe problematic topics?
There's one review on amazon relating to the Samsung 1TB-Disk, which mentioned much more fan-usage after installing the Samsung on a zBook 15 ( Amazon.de: Seibzehns Rezension von Samsung MZ-MTE1T0BW mSATA interne SSD 1TB ...) Unfortunately, this guy then decided to replace the 2,5'' Disk, so there is no comparable experince with smaler mSSDs.

Since I need more space I would maybe go for the 1TB-Version, if i would know, that installing a smaler SSD comes with the same noice-effect... Or did the smaler 250GB-variants, that some of you have installed not increase fan-usage???

Any other suggestions for recomendable mSATA-SSDs 500GB-plus?

2.) Has anyone tried a Multi-Boot-Installation and can share experince resp. how-to-do with us?
I'm thinking about testing Win 8.1 after upgrading diskspace but meanwhile need the existing running system.

3.) (Maybe a little off-topic): I'm not very experienced with Win 7 so far (came from HP 8710w with XP-Pro when ordering my zBook) and already found some problems which are definitely Win7-related, BUT: There is one behavior that seems more zBook ore mayby factory-installation related to me: I still cannot properly install one specific Software (Abis-AVA) which perfectly runs on several Win7 (32-Bit and 64-Bit) Computers in our Studio. Message from my system is: "Setup.exe funktioniert nicht mehr" meening "Setup.exe does not run any more". Google and Software-Support could not help till now...

Anyone any idea if this behavior could be related to factory-Installation?

    Thank you and good night!

I have a SK hynix 256G mSATA SSD installed. My ZBook 15 is on docking, and use most of time in air conditioned room. But when I check the mSATA SSD temperature, it shows between 43C to 48C.
So you might need to watch the air flow to keep the temperature under control.

Another thing is that Micron M500 480G is a pretty decent mSATA SSD, and should be selling at very good price now.

    QM87 supports DEVSLEEP

Nothing needs to be done in BIOS, but you might need to install Intel RST if you want to change the setting from time to time

    Hi all

Just bought a Zbook 15 with DreamColor display today, should be here by Friday. My model is the F2P51UT with:

    Windows 7 Professional 64
    Intel Core i7-4800MQ Quad Core
NVIDIA Quadro K2100M with 2 GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory
15.6 inch LED HP DreamColor FHD UWVA Anti-Glare enabled for Webcam (1920x1080)
    720p HD Webcam
    16GB 1600MHz DDR3L 2DM
    750 GB 7200 rpm 2.5-inch hard drive
    32GB mSATA Solid State Drive
Blu-ray ROM DVD±RW SuperMulti DL Drive
    Intel 6235 802.11 a/b/g/n 2x2 WiFi Adapter with Bluetooth
    Bluetooth® 4.0 Wireless Technology
    DualPoint Backlit Keyboard
    HP Fingerprint Reader
    HP 8-Cell 83 Wh Li-Ion Battery
    3-year standard parts and labor warranty 3/3/3. Includes HP Elite Premium Support, 24x7x365 @ 866 625 1175

I'd have liked to have gotten a larger SSD, as I presume 32GB will be too small to fit the system on. I'll need to figure out buying a larger SSD soon, but have no idea precisely what the form factor is and how to choose the best bang for the buck in terms of capacity and speed. Thoughts?

Anybody know how it comes configured out of the box -- what's the 32GB SSD used for, and what's on the 750GB HDD? (Reason I think 32GB is too small for the OS partition is I'm planning to stick with Win7, then install Adobe CS5.5 Master Collection, Lightroom 5, DxO Optics Pro 9, Office 2010, and a number of smaller miscellaneous utilities I'll need. I'm guessing that'll take me well beyond 32GB.)

I'm also considering upgrading to 802.11ac, and am wondering if there's a plug-in replacement for the Intel 6235 card. (Not sure if Bluetooth is on the same card, but if so I'd want something supporting Bluetooth 4.0 LE, too.)

Anything else I need to be aware of? It seems from reading this thread that the first thing to do would be check BIOS and upgrade, obviously I'll also want to get Windows and drivers all updated stat. Not sure if there's anything I'm forgetting, though...

    Thanks!
I also noticed that it makes quite a difference in temperature, if I place the notebook a little elevated. Longer powerusage lets the table itself gets quite hot when thers's no additional gap.

Yes, its reasonably priced and has good reviews. There's just the point of no further upgradepossibility without losing installed parts...

    Hi,

my system at the moment is an out-of-the-Box Win7-installation with my additional programms. I've about 24,5GBs in the "Windows"-Folder and another about 13GBs in "Programms" and "Programms (x86)".
Installed amount of software is comparable to yours.

So it will definitely be ways too less space!
Recomendable mSSD for ex. see above, but if somebody knows alternatives I'd like to know!

Edit: In your case I think that out of the box your 32GB-SSD will be used as a fast cache for your HDD. There are some settings (I don't know them exactly) you have to change (Bios, i asume) if you add a larger SSD, that you are going to use as a standarddrive...

Great info, thanks! So it sounds like if I can afford to upgrade to a larger SSD straight away, I'll want to. Time to research and crunch numbers...

    Thanks for the info!

    Yesterday i installed a Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SSD :D

    BTW:

I had a problem to install the drivers for my HP lt4112 LTE/HSPA+ card,
    but i found a solution:

    1) Install Windows 8.1 PRO 64-BIT
    2) Then install drivers
    3) AFTER that you can run Windows Update incl. the Update 1 rollup-update

If you install Win 8.1 and all updates and then the drivers the 4112+ card will be not recorginzed
    like this:

    - HP Mobile Connect - Modem
    - HP Mobile Connect - Application Interface
    - HP Mobile Connect - GPS Interface
    - HP Mobile Connect - Network Card
    - HP Mobile Connect - PC UI Interface

(First i thougt it was because i changed in Bios following:
UEFI without CSM, Deep Sleep "on" and Secure Boot "on" - but that doesnt matter
BTW: you have to reinstall Win 8.1 if you change these bios settings)

I want to add my experience with the Samsung SSD 840 EVO 1TB, mSATA 6Gb/s (MZ-MTE1T0BW) drive:

My idle temp was 40 Grad/Degree
but in copying a few GB's the temp rises to 61 Grad/Degree.

The temps was not the problem,
    my problem was:

with this drive the fan of the ZBook 15 was every time audible! It goes on/off and on/off
    during surfing in the internet.

Without the drive i never heard the fan!

Even when i installed two 2,5" SSD's i have no audible fan in idle during surfing the www.

Ok my Zbook is fully packed with 32GB RAM, 4112+ LTE card, 7260 WLan card maybe its getting hotter than other ZBooks.

But for me the 1TB Version is not an option!
Maybe the 512GB or 256GB versions runs cooler

Unfortunately it seems same to me, so that i'll likely give Micron/Cruzial a try giving up the 1TP-plan...
Maybe this increase of temperatur goes ahead with yours and others observations of decreasing speed while copying larger files.

    Edit:
by the Way: Thanks for detailed review on amazon! (more, than "wow! faster, than my old 5400-HDD..."-Qutes is not so common!)
I was on the way to order the Evo, as I read it...
