Has anyone tried these to attach a GPU to the laptop?, i saw there is also a mPCIe version.

I have seen others posting about using these. I cannot remember who, specifically. Seems like a long time ago that @woodzstack mentioned them.
Did you poke around any in this sub-forum?

...or this thread?

yeah but I read somewhere that it doesn't work the same on every laptop due to BIOS compatibility, some work better with the ExpressCard version and other with the mPICe version, so i wan ted to know if anyone has done it on this specific laptop modelMr. Fox likes this.

Does the Z2 have PCI Express M.2 slots? There are some of those eGPU adpaters using this interface and the performance may be even better than thunderbolt...
I have a Zbook G3. There are two M.2 ports for storage... I am not sure if PCI E hardware, such those eGPU adapters will be properly reconized ... -
i found this, it might be useful for you.

Mastermind5200 Notebook Virtuoso
I used a EC with the 17 G2, worked fine with a RX 480. Be warned that the G2 series have the expresscard share the PCIE lane with the Wifi and something else, can't remember what the 3rd device is. This is because of the limited PCIE lanes on the QM87 and the bulk of the lanes go to the M.2/TB2 (4 for TB2, 2 for the M.2)
The Zbook 15 G2 has a Expresscard, TB2, and M.2 for PCIE output, I would advise using the TB2 as it provide the most bandwidth in theory. If not that, the M.2, don't know if it'll work or not. -
what was your configuration using the EC slot?, ive seen people use the tb2 port but it needs an espensive dock for the card while the EC slot adapter is cheap.

Mastermind5200 Notebook Virtuoso
Just an RX 470 with e a EXP GDC. I'd recommend the M.2 one, as it offers up to double the max bandwidth of the EC Slot.

Did you have any peoblem with drivers?

yeah older laptops used to have these cards, these days just use em for extra USB 3.0 if you can, but back then we could get an Audigy soundcard going
-
IIRC, Audigy 2 ZS (and I guess some weaker variants) was only available as PCMCIA, for ExpressCard they were X-Fi Extreme (which was some weaker model) and X-Fi Notebook cards.
Personally, I used Audigy 2 ZS, but later on Creative drivers didn't work with more than 4GB of RAM, so I had to switch to X-Fi Notebook (had both slots on my Dell M6700). The latter was great even though it wasn't really based on a proper X-Fi processor. -
The ExpressCard slot in the Zbook G2 besides being severely crippled as @Mastermind5200 mentioned, appears to be faulty for some. See https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Noteb...-non-functional-expresscard-slot/td-p/4962544
