...or did the thread on the pirated demo model of the Sandybridge HP Elitebook 8640w go poof? Just askin'.
-
What thread?
Yeah, I think it went poof.... Till CeBit. -
I've no idea, Aikimox. What are you talking about?
-
Nope it is Not your imagination,
It's 8560p actually.. or was it another leaks?
Oh anyway I'm the creator of the unreleased 8640p thread, and It's vanished.
And guess what? the original source, the Romanian one also got deleted.
Oh well anyone CAN still find my post anyway, if one tries hard enough
LOL nice moves HP
-
so, this was the real thing then
-
I wish somebody had saved all those picasa pics. Anyway, is it just me, or is that new EliteBook ugly?
The xx30 and xx40 models look elegant and ßadass, but this new one reminds me more of a Sony (or such) consumer model. And while we're at it, what happened to xx50?
If that's really what the new ones look like, then hell, I may just get the SB Envy 17 3D.
Anyone who's browsed the gallery before it vanished: please check in your browser cache for the images, and post a zip on rapidshare, or such. -

I wasn't impressed with what I saw either. Especially the keyboard's arrow keys.
If it comes out with DC2 immediately, I might almost be interested, but I honestly am very happy with my 8440W at this moment. Plus, from the looks of it, it'll make its accessories incompatible, so I'd end up having to find another HDD adapter. -
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
The whole concept of it going chicklet is very bad. Also glossy plastics. Ewwwww... -
NecessaryEvil Notebook Evangelist
Chiclet I can handle. It's not my favorite, but I have much less issue with that than I do bad layouts, of which a non-inverted-T arrow key layout qualifies.
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
In that case, I might really defect to Dell. They still got the sense to make it professional.
-
What I really like about the current EliteBooks is that they look like real workstations (like those Z series): elegant and ßadass. (stupid forum keeps silently removing that word when spelled normally. "elegant and .")
The current models are like Supercars, and the new design is like those stupid Rice Rockets, instead.
Hell, even the Envy is far more elegant than the new crap. -
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
Yeah that stylishly unpractical one... -
looks a bit to Sony-ish and Samsung-ish to me and I like their keyboards, but I have thin fingers.
-
considering the current Elitebook models names (xx40), shouldn't this one be named 8550p ? (so hoping that it's a fake...)
-
we have to wait a little longer to hear the truth, business models delayed
Dell, Gigabyte and MSI pull products in wake of Sandy Bridge chipset flaw, HP faces delays -- Engadget -
while you're right about HP sometimes jumping numbers, one could argue that the xx30-xx40 transition was more major a redesign (most notably going from 16/10 to 16/9 form factors) than the xx10-xx30 transition.
Anyway, let's hope that this leaked 8560p was a _very_ early prototype... -
I'm all over it.
This damn 8510w just wont quit, I will have to replace it on general principals this year. -
indeed my NW8440 is still a fully functioning machine, but she rests in a cupboard, with my 8730 lol
-
My nw8440 also runs great, and I still use mine every day. It's been a great machine, considering how much I used it (almost every day for the past 4 years). I will definitely buy another HP Compaq/Elitebook if I ever get the money...
I actually like the looks of that 8560p prototype. Very clean and stylish. Not as professional as the current 8540 and previous 8530, but still good. Not too sure about the MacBook-style keyboard though. But if it had a 16:10 1920x1200 screen (which it most likely won't), then I'd purchase it, no questions asked. -
Here's a better pic of the new one, from an HP official document, no less:
HP QuickWeb Technology Spotlight (Brochure/4AA2-8459ENW.pdf)
Looks like the design is decent-ish... but why the heck did they drop the middle button? That's a huge selling point (for me), and the pad is too big to have just two! -
Looks a better in these shops except for the Sony/Samsung looking keyboard(not the fact it chicklet, but the color and design of it).
-
if I'm not mistaken, the current 14 inches models don't have a middle button either (which I agree is bad).
What really annoys me is the new cursor keys. Where does such a stupid design idea come from ? -
aha, Look what I've found
link
Pretty much similar to the one in brochure, but notice the real deal has four button instead of three. -
I hope new 12-14" EliteBooks will look better than new refreshed Latitudes
!
This one that youre guy posting about that got pulled from ebay looks ugly from above tbh. -
I like the new Latitude designs... not a big fan of HP's chiclet keyboards though.
-
I like the position of the finger print reader, but for me it would be great to have one on the back of the monitor. And only enable it when its on its docking station.
On the 8510W, the finger print reader is kind of in the way for use when your typing on the notebook, and inaccessable when using a docking station. -
Does anybody have an idea as to when HP will be announcing updates? Even if it's just a paper launch with marketing brochures and pictures?
-
They would be announced now, the sandy bridge thing impacted the whole line.
Thats just my opinion. -
Nah, business notebooks are never released immediately with new chipsets since they usually wait for the consumers/early adopters to discover and post-testing kinks.
-
So those pictures where off what then?
-
These notebooks are ugly. Why does there seem to be an increasing preference for appearance over substance? First the Dell E6x20 series (hideous) and now these (hideous). Here's hoping the Lenovo T420 will look recognizable as a business tool. If not, I'll have to buy a refurb 8440W.
-
If it were about looking good, then they should've made it look like the Envy. This... looks far inferior to any of their notebooks (consumer or business) from the last several years!
-
It's actually redesigned to be a lot more durable and the connectors are more convenient. But if you don't like these chances are you won't like the new HP Elitebooks too. The Thinkpads should retain their looks but IMO they've been continually decreasing in build quality (and they admit that in their blog in order to lower cost, ie. removing magnesium roll cage in certain models).
-
Mere images are incomparable to what you see in real life. Besides, this may only be a prototype since the new business models are usually announced in the springtime. As long as its durable, reliable and well-built with a quality display and good performance, then it seems like a solid choice for the productive type.
-
Putting orange stripes around the keyboard and increasing overall size with huge screen bezels as Dell had done doesn't make the notebook more convenient. It just makes it look cheap. And while I could put up with moving the Page Up/Down keys to the far right of the keyboard, deleting the inverted T layout for the arrow keys is inexcusable when the chassis has the space for a proper keyboard. What's wrong with updating the existing chassis? Models like the old Compaq Evo N6xx lasted through three different processor/mainboard architectures while retaining the same basic industrial design. I'll wait and see what the new Elitebooks look like when more pictures are released, but so far I'm not impressed.
-
You either didn't read my message or failed to acknowledge my points for the connectors being more conveniently placed, nor the fact that the new Latitudes should be much better built than previous generations (unfortunately, if it's heavier and/or thicker, you'll have to suck it up, similarly when the Elitebooks were redesigned 2 generations ago). As for the orange stripes, that seems to be cosmetic only and thus irrevelant.
-
what a relief...
I was a bit worried with the temptation to upgrade again so quickly. But from the looks of it, I'll be holding onto my 8540w until HP gets things right. Or when Dell has refurb M4600
I hope the HP 2760p doesn't follow the same trend... but then again, I suppose anything looks better than my Thinkpad
-
Actually I kind of like the looks of Thinkpads. That's highly subjective, but if you go over to the parallel topic in the Lenovo board, you might notice how no one is discussing looks...b/c of course the T/Wx20 line is nearly identical to the T/Wx10 line.
-
Confirmed. That thing on e-bay last week is new elitebook. Here is a proof:
HP EliteBook | TechRepublic
Enjoy further discussion..
-
I like the new look! I hope that it is a tank like the futur Dell E6420..
-
looks like HP ran out of fake brushed aluminum stickers
-
^I'm guessing that is the ProBook line (yuck). I would guess below in the 8560w or 8760w, but no back vents seems odd.
Oh wait, how'd I miss this subtle clue?
Man, I like the ProBook style better. -
pretty sure the one you posted is the probook, not the elitebook.
look at the curves and it appears to be plastic? and if i'm not mistaken, there was even a picture that said PROBOOK on the monitor -
You must have caught me mid-edit....it was only up for a few mins before I saw the ProBook Logo on another pic.
-
New elite books look shiny, think this is the 15 inch?
-
This is the 14'' 8460p. The 15'' has a num pad.
-
So, they will be out around mid-march like lenovo's and dell's ones?
-
Well, on the plus side, it no longer has that just-asking-to-be-broken thin lip on the edge, and we could always just get a "skin" for the lid.
Plus, the touchpad looks like a clickpad plus buttons... check out the "disable touchpad" LED in the top-left! On the other hand, the 15" one having only two buttons is stupid -- that'd be a downgrade!
Now I really am torn between the new Sandy Bridge Envy17 3D and the new EliteBooks. I guess I just have to wait and see... -
I thought it was 30 hours? Either way I doubt many will be needing to use the battery for 24 hours with out being away from an outlet.
Is it my imagination...
