Hi everyone,
I am experiencing a problem with my EliteBook 8440p. Unfortunately, there is an extremely annoying message each and every time I boot up my machine. It delays my start-up significantly. Up to now, I can't get rid of it.

The BIOS has an option which is called PXE Internal NIC boot under System Configuration \ Boot Options. Disabling this results in becoming re-enabled: After saving the changes, re-starting, and re-joining the BIOS this option is enabled again. BIOS version is F.20 and hence up-to-date.
What can I do? Thank you.

Thanks for your response.
Changes to the Legacy Boot Order (that's the way this option is named in the BIOS) take no effect. It's the same thing as with PXE Internal NIC boot. Although I did various changes to the boot order it looks exactly the same as it did before when saving and re-entering the BIOS:
Notebook Ethernet
Notebook Upgrade Bay
Notebook Hard Drive
USB Floppy
USB CD-ROM
USB Hard Drive
SD Card
Dock Upgrade Bay
There seems to be absolutely no way to make my changes getting applied. This one is driving me mad! -
sounds strange.
just a guess , i had an old intel desktop, that would need saving twice in the bios - once for saving the setting in the menu and when exiting the bios the save had to be written to the bios chip - so basicly i had to save twice to have a change applied to the bios settings.
could this apply here too ? -
Hi schoko,
it's great to meet a compatriot here in the forums.
To address the issue you mentioned above: no, it's definitely not. I've had the very same idea but it did not resolve the BIOS fault. -
Hi blaze,
you are welcome !
well what you say indicates that something is wrong with your bios.
you can try to reset the bios.
does it help to reset the bios settings ?
if not you should try this :
- unplug yor computer from the external power source
- remove the battery
- press the power on button for 5 - 10 seconds
after you have done that you can connect your notebook to the a powersource again and see if it helped to clear the problem.elevul likes this. -
Oh my god, that helped! I refuse to believe it. I'm a really lucky man indeed.
Kudos to you and Indrek. Thank you so much. -
good to hear that it worked.
sometimes the bios gets "stuck" for some reason and in most cases it simply helps to withdraw any power from the systemboard to clear the bios. -
Thank you.
Edit: nvm...
