I actually picked up an XPS 15 (on sale during the holidays) which is a lower-spec rebrand of the Dell Precision 5510. It was a reasonably nice machine--but nothing that made me particularly thrilled. It may actually be prettier than the ZBook Studio--but the terrible speakers and the flimsy spacebar and the missing Home/End/PgUp/PgDn keys and... Well, I decided to go for the ZBook Studio instead. I'll have more feedback on the Studio on Friday :)

BTW, I bought one or two Precision laptops in the past and they were really awesome. But that was back when Dell made purpose-built Precisions. Rebranding an upgraded XPS as a Precision doesn't seem to make for an amazing machine anymore.

For a custom-configured Xeon machine, go to the following link and then click configure:
    http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/business-solutions/zbook-studio-g3-notebook-pc-m6v81av-1

You can also go to store.hp.com and search for "ZBook Studio"...and then you'll get customization options for the two lower-spec Core i7 processors too.

I don't think you need a business account. If so, maybe just fill in "bee productions" as the company name? ;) Or enter your name twice (once as name, once as company)?

3/3/3 is 3 years of parts, 3 years of labor and 3 years of on-site service. The on-site service is scheduled if they can't fix the problem remotely, and I don't know what the average response time is. They even cover the battery for the full three years. The words "on-site" make me happy, since that means no extended downtime if they need to fix the machine.

HP also has "complete care"-style accidental damage protection warranties, but when I asked an HP rep about them he said that I'd need to buy it after I got the machine since they didn't have the extra protection plans listed yet.

Don't know, but I'm assuming that they're shipping with TPM 2.0 since it's 2016. If not I'm sure we'll get it eventually. I haven't seen a download for it in the ZBook Studio's downloads/drivers page at hp.com.

You can actually order this now, with your custom ZBook Studio. It's $279 and I'm assuming that they're available now since it doesn't change the ship date on the machine. Check out the last entry in the configuration options ("HP ZBook 150W TB3 Dock").

As to whether or not it is worth it, I opted against ordering the dock. If you use multiple monitors and sit at a desk with a full-size keyboard, etc. then I definitely recommend getting it. Especially since you save 30% on it getting it with your machine.

Billy you're spot on - Precision 5510 being a rebranded XPS consumer laptop was one of the reasons why i opted against purchasing it. :D :p Good to hear others validate what I was thinking o_O

I ordered my ZBook Studio last week from a phone rep, and he mentioned that he received an update about a delay with the docks. He didn't really seem to have much more info about it, though. I did order one as part of my ZBook order, and it's supposed to ship on the 25th -- I guess we'll know next week whether the dock is delayed or not :)

Please respond and let us know your impressions. I'd like to hear what you think since Best Buy nor Frys has the ZBook on display. I feel like I'm going to be buying it blindly so any input or known reviews like yours would be great.

The chip doesn't change, this is just a firmware update.

Thanks for the first impressions. Finally a real user instead of the same press release "hands on" back in November.

Ahah, so these may be available soon now. Excellent. I believe the ZBook Studio was supposed to get the 1545, not the 1575.

Well this info was leaked from an Intel price sheet. No official word from Intel, yet but this means we're getting close.

Also, skylake chips were found to have a defect in them that causes system instability when running complex instructions like Math++ etc so that might be the reason for the slow roll out. Intel is working with Mboard makers to release a BIOS update to compensate for the defect.

I heard from my rep today that a parts shipment was delayed that put a stop to their production line. So my ship date of 1/25 is now looking more like 2/1-2/6. No idea what part it was, but just wanted to share that info.

Also, looks like there a $200 eGift card offer on laptops >$1500, including the ZBook Studio!

Going to the UK site's Zbook Studio page now shows a Buy Now button rather than the link to be notified but the prices are still absolutely ludicrous - the only Xeon model listed is £2445 ex VAT so nearly £3000 inclusive. Bearing in mind how overpriced I've always thought the MacBook Pro Retina line is they're starting at £1999 inclusive of VAT (yes, I know it's an old processor line, etc, etc).

None of the laptops are actually in stock yet so I suspect HP are inflating the prices now so they can show a substantial saving on them when they do finally come into stock. To be honest it feels like a childish way to go about marketing such a professional product line - does anyone really think they're getting a 30% saving if they pay £1700 plus VAT for a mobile workstation?

Seems the German site also has them listed at even higher prices btw.

It seems the Thunderbolt dock is now delayed until March. That was holding up my order, so my rep had to cancel and re-place the order without the dock to get it to go through, as they wouldn't release the laptop by itself.

Also, I noticed the configuration tool now forces you into a 2 DIMM configuration if you want a UHD display. Interesting; is there a technical reason behind that?

Well, I expected see HP alter the prices but I didn't expect them to increase them! Xeon model now £2502 plus VAT in the UK. Utter madness!

On the US site, certain models see a 30% discount once you add it to your cart. Also, it seems that on some configurations, if you add a second hard drive (?), the discount is reflected on the configuration page, without needing to go to your cart to see the discount. Is there a possibility that the UK site is doing this too?

No, nothing by way of a discount for the UK yet either in the cart or before that. By way of comparison I can spec the Dell Precision 5510 for under £2000 ex VAT the same 16GB RAM, 512GB PCIe storage and a 4K panel.

I see the 1TB PCIe SSDs are now available in the configuration tool for build-to-order models.
