Hey all,
Does anyone know when the new hp elitebook 8560w will be available? Google and a search on notebookreview doesn't give any new info.
Thanks Jan

I'm working on info about that with my Business to Business contact...
-
Same here. No ETA yet though...
-
No ETA, I just asked...
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
no ETA for any w series? damm! Why did they all go for a crap nvidia card?
-
Because nVidia is still preferred for workstation solutions... not really sure how you figure nVidia is crap either.
-
It would be nice if we would have a choice. Firepro or quadro (dream on: quadro 1-2-3000 or 6870 based firepro : dream off).
-
If AMD releases a FirePro equivalent, I have no doubts that HP and other companies will add it to their GPU selection list when it is available (after all, the 8540w/8740w did).

By the way, love your avatar. -

Ok, from reliable source (HP sales) the new workstations will be released in June 2011.
-
Wii, may be you can also ask your reliable source what have happened with the full HD (1920*1080) display option for 8560 p? When the sales just started in the middle of march it was available for some time, but then quickly disappeared. Now this option is only available for mobile workstation. Looks like some marketing decision, because apart from this option i really don't see much difference between p and w.
-
Oh, I'm working on that too, I posted about it here:

Does anyone know if the 8560w will have a keyboard with a numpad like the current 8540w has?
Thanks Jan -
Yes, it will.
-
nice!
So right now i have to choose either the current 8540w (i7-740qm, 8gb, dreamcolor 8-bits+FRC) or a similar priced 8560w (dreamcolor 10-bits).
Which should i go for?
Thanks Jan -
We have no info about the 8560w, so you are asking too early.
-
Maybe i should re-phrase my question:
Would the 8560w be a significant update (in your opinion / expectations) to the allready good 8540w or would it be 'just' an update to current available hardware? Or in other words will the 8560w be worth the wait?
I am trying to justify the wait for the 8560w over buying an 8540w for myself, but i didn't come to any conclusions yet. Maybe your ideas about this could tip the scale in one way or the other.
Thanks Jan -
The rest should be about the same.
I think it worth the wait. -

any news about the next CPU Ivy Bridge? I have heard it could be available in June... or is this too fast for HP?

Intel Tick-Tock - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia -
I think it will be far more interesting to see how AMDs Llano will perform. It is their first 32-nm CPU (or APU as they call it) and has already been delivered to the respective brands. If it performs well (like i7 Sandy Bridges), it will put pressure on Intel's pricing strategy. Thus it might be wise to wait for Q2/Q3 2011 when prices might drop significantly. -
it was on a German site
Ivy Bridge: 20 Prozent schneller als Sandy Bridge - News - CHIP Online
In the last sentence June is mentioned as possible release -
-
No, it's a new generation, as noted by the "new microarchitecture" entry to its left.
-
Anyway an ETA (and price indication) on the 8560w would be great but still out of the question i guess.
Thanks Jan -
2011 - 32 nm Sandy Bridge (new arch)
2012 - 22 nm Ivy Bridge (shrink of SB)
2013 - 22 nm Haswell (new arch)
2014 - 16 nm Rockwell (shrink of HW) - may be 14nm built from the first 450mm substrates and called Broadwell.
2015 - 16 nm Sky Lake (new arch)
2016 - 11 nm Skymont (shrink)
Although new toys are always interesting to me, I can see having all my processing needs covered for about 2 more years with my current crop of 8540w, 8740w and 6550b. So I'm waiting for the design and features of the new Haswell machines. -
yes, but because of AMD Bulldozer Ivy Bridge is maybe not that far away
however, maybe only rumors... -
-
The CPU cores in Llano are related to the cores in Phenom I and II, and those are quite inefficient compared to SB.
For the same reason, AMD have dropped this design for high end desktop and will use the new Bulldozer design instead.
Llano will be replaced next year with a new design which is based on Bulldozer, but by that time Intel is one step ahead again with 22 nm, and AMD will still be stuck at 32 nm.
AMD's only chance to compete with Intel is this year, with high end Bulldozer desktop and server CPU's.
One big reason why Llano doesn't have the new Bulldozer design is that it would be too risky for AMD to use this new design on all new CPU's.
That's why we'll see Llano (with integrated PCIe, graphics, new socket, but old cores), and Zambezi with new cores combined with the mostly old AM3+ socket and chipsets.
AMD will replace everything old next year, so these upcoming CPU's are transition models in many aspects.
Expect a much faster successor for Llano, and a socket replacement for AM3+ next year. -

Apparently not. -
