    Hello,

After booting from the XP SP3 disk, I could format the Vista partition and the laptop re-booted after copying the installation files. After boot-up and the Windows XP screen, came the installation screen. The laptop stut down after about a minute on this screen. I tried again but to the same effect.

The disk is ok and there is no disk read error.

Any thoughts why this could be happening?

    Thanks in advance and regards,

    Ravindra.

You have a sata hard drive , and the xp disc has no drivers to support installing in this newer model laptop
You need xp driver support from hp and I could not see any xp hard drive driver support on the hp downloads section for your model

    Hello,

Thank you for your early replies.
Please excuse my ignorance but if the xp disk did not have/ find the HDD drivers, how did it detect it and let me format it?

    Regards,

    Ravindra.

Cause, when you inserted your xp disk, the driver for the SATA hdd has already been installed by vista ..

If you use xp, you must install the storage matrix driver for the hdd.. I not sure whether this driver is listed on hp website or not..

    Hello,

I cleaned my XP disk and repeated the process. Just for variation, I formatted using FAT instead of NTSC. For whatever reasons, I was able to install XP. I have managed to get all the drivers. However, audio is not working. Can I get some inputs on why this could be so?

    Thanks in advance and regards,

    Ravindra.
