try loading your default vista driver from the restoration disc that's included.
how about the touchpad and card reader driver? -
Hi,
I have a HP dv2550se laptop with Vista installed too. I think my specs are slightly different to those of the original poster though. Anyway, I really want to install XP on it too. (I know that generally XP should go on first and then Vista but I don't have any Vista disk and I think I can get Vista to boot after installing XP with Vista Boot Pro or something similar). The laptop has an SATA drive which I've never had before so my XP install cd doesn't work. I think I can include the drivers for it on a custom install cd though. Can anyone help me find the right drivers? Here, from the Vista device manager, are the device names I think are relevant:
Under Disk drives:
ST9160821AS (I think that's Seagate)
Under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers:
Intel 82801 HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller
Intel ICH8M Ultra ATA Storage Controller 2850
Under Storage controllers:
Microsoft iSCSI Initiator
Please let me know if I can provide any more useful information.
Thanks for your help! -
Did you back up your drivers before you did the XP install? It should all be in there some might say its not compatible/signed driver on XP but if you proceed anyway it works
Also theres the HP website. The drivers should be there but im not sure if there specific to the parts you have just listed. -
I found the SATA driver and installed XP alongside Vista with a custom install cd made with nLite. Then I restored Vista's bootloader so both XP and Vista would boot. I managed to find most of the XP drivers except for these:
Conexant HD Audio
Base System Device
Base System Device
Base System Device
Unknown Device
SM Bus Controller
Any idea what the Base System Devices or the SM Bus Controller might be? -
take a look here -> www.nogodforme.com/HPDV6500T.htm
i have managed to install all drivers of XP for my dv2500t... -
where can I find the drivers of the SATA, i found one driver but when I try to instal wth F6 in the windows instal, show me an erro ta txtinstal.oem or somthing like that has made a trouble with a file, can any body help me please
-
have you tried HP site for the sata drivers -
Thanks for linking to my page. The DV2500T is similar to the DV6500T with 3 minor differences that I have listed on my page.
For the Sata stuff, you get those drivers from the Intel site. The thing is, you have to unpack the drivers on a Vista machine or it won't work. So I put the 6 Sata driver files you need on my web site for people to download directly. Follow my directions for making an XP CD using nLite. If you do it correctly, your XP CD will boot and find your hard drive.
From the looks of what the OP posted, it seems like the 5 in 1 card reader is not installed. -
**Intel 82801 HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller
**Intel ICH8M Ultra ATA Storage Controller - 2850
In the HP web I found the driver SP36132, but whe I use teh USB it showme that problem, and with nlite I can´t make the cd with the files of the hp web
thank you -
I have nearly the exact same list of missing drivers as you do, so if you happen to find a solution, could you please post where you located your drivers. Thanks for any help.

Go to the Intel site for the SATA drivers. Use their floppy creation utility and then extract the drivers from the floppy. Then make a custom install cd with nLite using the "Intel 82801 HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller". It's pretty easy to figure out but I'm sure you can find instruction on how to do it. You could integrate XPSP2 at this stage too, if you like. Use Vista's device manager to find the names/model numbers of all of the devices you need to install (Chipset, Video, Wireless, Ethernet, Audio, Modem and Card Reader). You'll also need the Microsoft Universal Audio driver, .NETFramework 2.0 and DirectX 9.0c.
Install XP using the custom install cd. If you install it on a separate partition to Vista then you'll need to restore the Vista bootloader. There are a number of ways to do this. Vista Boot Pro makes it very easy. Search for instructions on how to do this.
Get the Chipset, Wireless and Video drivers from the Intel site too. Then get DirectX 9.0c, .NETFramework 2.0 and the Microsoft Universal Audio driver from the Microsoft site. The Ethernet driver is on the Marvell site. Use the Vista drivers from the HP site for the Ricoh Card Reader. You need to extract the files from the .exe and manually install each of the "Base System Devices". The drivers you'll need are in the x86 folder. I've written how to do that on the forum listed below anyway. I have lots of different Conexant HD Audio drivers. I think one of them works. Can't remember which one at the moment. I'm using an external soundcard so I don't need it just yet. I'm not bothered with the Modem so I'm not going to install it. There is one unknown device I think but everything I need is working. I'll post more details if I find out what the missing device is. Look here for some more help:

use this guide and use the drivers provided by Hackez
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=140131&page=14
first go to Page 5 to learn how to create a disk that will recognize your harddrive -
The guide may be useful but you can't use those drivers. They're for a different model with different hardware.

Ok I finally got everything working. Here's how to dual boot XP and Vista on the HP dv2550se...
Download the Intel floppy creation utility which includes the SATA driver you'll need:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?ProductID=2101&DwnldID=13808&lang=eng
Make the floppy and extract the drivers, then integrate the driver on a custom XP install cd using nLite ( www.nliteos.com). There are plenty of guides on how to do this.
In Vista, right click “Computer” and choose “Manage”. Here you can resize your Vista partition and create a new NTFS Logical partition in the empty space. Install XP on the new partition.
When it's installed, in Windows Explorer go to Tools - Folder Options - View and choose to show hidden files and show protected operating system files. Then copy the boot folder, boot.ini, NTDETECT.COM, bootmgr and ntldr from the root of your Vista partition to the root of your XP partition.
Now download and install Microsoft's .NET Framework 2.0
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...CB-4362-4B0D-8EDD-AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en
Next download and install Vista Boot Pro:
http://www.vistabootpro.org/
Open Vista Boot Pro and make a backup of your BCD file as instructed. Now go to ”System Bootloader “and check "Windows Vista Bootloader". In the "Install Options", choose to install to a "Specific Drive” and choose your "C" drive. Click "Install Bootloader"
Next go to "Manage OS Entries" and add an entry for XP, choosing "D" as your "Boot Drive". Click “Apply Updates”. Now XP and Vista should be bootable. You can set which is the default to boot and how long you should have to choose an OS here too.
Next, download and install Microsoft's DirectX 9.0c.
http://filehippo.com/download_directx/
Now download and install the Intel GM965 Chipset Driver, GM965 Graphics Driver & the Matrix Storage Manager. You can get them all here (top row):
http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/intelgm965/sb/CS-025753.htm
Reboot if needs be.
Get the Marvell Ethernet Adapter driver here:
http://www.marvell.com/drivers/driverDisplay.do?dId=175&pId=6
Get the Intel Wireless Adapter driver here:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/fil...XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go!
Install the two network adapter drivers.
Next, download the Ricoh Card Reader drivers for Vista:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3439353&os=2093&lang=en
Extract them to a folder, then use the drivers in the x86 folder to install each "Base System Device" manually using Device Manager... Right click "My Computer", go to the "Hardware" tab and choose "Device Manager". Scroll down til you see the three "Base System Devices".
Right click the first "Base System Device" and choose to “Update driver”. Choose "No, not at this time" and click next, then choose “Install from a list or specific location” and click next. De-check “Search removable media” and check “Include this location in the search”. Browse to the MS folder within the x86 and install click next. Now repeat this process for the second “Base System Device”, this time choosing the MMC folder as the search location. Now do it for the third, choosing the xD folder as the search location.
Download and install the Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture before installing the audio driver:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33501-34000/sp33867.exe
Download and install this Conexant HD Audio Driver:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp34001-34500/sp34386.exe
Download and extract the Vista Conexant Modem drivers and run the “Setup.exe” in the V32 folder:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3439353&os=2093&lang=en
Download and install the HP Quicklaunch Buttons:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...n&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3439353&os=228&lang=en
That should be the final missing device in Device Manager:
The Lightscribe Software and the HP Software Updater and Wireless Assistant aren't really necessary but you can get them at:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3439353&lang=en
Hope that helps! -
Just curious if anybody has installed XP on it yet. I just got my laptop today so I havent had much time to fiddle with it. If anybody has installed XP, how is battery life affected? Thanks in advance.
-
This thread is all about people who have installed xp on the dv2550se haha! Anyway, haven't had much of a chance to compare battery life to Vista yet. From casual observation, it seems similar so far. Install it and run some benchmarks, I guess.
-
I was just wondering because I don't want to go through it if there is no improvement. Judging by what I've read on the net, Vista loves to eat batteries, thanks to aero.
