The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.
I've decided to take on the duty to post the latest drivers that are compatible with the following notebooks. It is part of my ongoing, informal commitment to help assist those who had performed clean installs on their HP notebooks. Please let me know if you find newer drivers or other devices so I can update this post!

Drivers
All of these drivers come from HP's website, Microsoft Update, and from other reputable websites (including other manufacturers). All of the drivers here are also WHQL Certified or digitally signed drivers, available as of the date when this post was updated. These drivers should be compatible with the notebook series stated above, but I am not responsible for technical difficulties that can occur as a result of improper driver installation!
Following along the same lines as the other driver threads, the process of installing and updating drivers is for
ADVANCED/EXPERIENCED users only. Average users can use the drivers located at the
HP support portals -- they're the safest and simplest way to go in terms of drivers for your specific model. Some of these drivers may work with notebooks other than the stated brand and models, but this is NOT guaranteed.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK -- only install these drivers if you know how to revert the changes that you have made should any problems be encountered.

Important Information

To ensure that all device drivers are updated, simply execute the downloaded setup file using the -overall parameter.<br />
<br />
Example: If you saved the downloaded file as infinst911autol.exe to the root directory of C: drive, you can launch the Run command (Windows key + R) and insert "C:\infinst911autol.exe -overall" in the Open field (without the quotes). Press OK to begin the interactive installation process.<br />
<br />
Starting with Intel Chipset Device Software package version 9.2.0.1016, the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver may become overwritten with the driver that exists in the package if it is installed. Should such an instance occur, reinstall the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver afterwards.<br />

If you are having problems with the Interactive Setup wizard, use the INF Install method instead. This allows the driver to be installed using the Device Manager - Update Driver wizard. Once the driver is installed, you can try the Interactive Setup wizard again to ensure that the software is correctly installed.

Please note that version 6.5 packages will, without your permission, install bloatware into the following directory - C:\Program Files\WIDCOMM\Bluetooth Software\EasyBits Games. You can safely remove the EasyBits Games folder and then run a registry scan (using third-party software) to remove any other evidence of EasyBits on your system.<br />
This is the most compatible driver currently available for these notebooks. Newer versions may exist and work, but they are not fully compatible with certain functions (for customization, etc).<br />
Although not required, it is recommended that you uninstall all previous versions of the Synaptics TouchPad / ClickPad driver before installing the newest version.<br />

The current release supports the following Validity fingerprint sensors: VFS201, VFS300, VFS301, VFS421, VFS451.<br />
Remove all previous versions prior to installing the latest release. If the driver does not successfully install, use the Device Manager - Update Driver wizard instead.<br />
This driver is equivalently known as HP ProtectSmart for consumer notebooks and HP 3D DriveGuard for business notebooks.<br />
Drivers provided by the Microsoft Update Catalog must be installed using the Device Manager - Update Driver wizard. These releases do not include the additional software or control panel.<br />

The BIOS images released must be flashed in a Windows environment.<br />
[COLOR="Red"]Only use the BIOS release that is applicable to your particular notebook model. Do NOT attempt to flash a BIOS image that is not supported or designated for your model. Doing so will render your system unusable![/COLOR]<br />
Be sure to carefully read the guidelines displayed by the BIOS update utility to ensure a successful flash.<br />
Right now, I'm currently trying to verify whether or not the Envy 14 includes USB 3.0. I will update on this issue once I can verify and will update the post if necessary.
EDIT: From the product page, there only seems to be USB 2.0 ports on the Envy 14. Apologies if I had said documentation; I thought there was some available but I guess not at this time.
I'm interested in seeing what tech support has to say about this. For now, I'll be removing the USB 3.0 drivers.
whats the best way to transfer the out of the box HP config to a new hard drive? I'm getting a momentus xt and replacing it as soon as my laptop arrives, and I've been told I should just image the old hd with acronis and then transfer it to the new HD? how will this work with windows activation, and will I have to reinstall all of these drivers? thanks and sorry if this is off topic
I reinstalled the Intel Rapid Storage Technology with the new driver posted (9.6.4.1002), and now it takes about 5 minutes for it to start running after system boot up. Grrr....
Anyone know a troubleshoot? I haven't been able to find anything online.
The initial time to boot after installing Intel Rapid Storage Technology should take longer than usual partially because it is re-detecting all the components that utilize the SATA controller(s). However, times should be faster than what you had posted for subsequent boots.

Updated Broadcom 2070 Bluetooth driver to version 6.3.0.5600.
After a fresh windows install, I'm not sure which software will reinstall what controls the trackpad's quick enable/disable or any type of on-screen display of the volume etc.
I did. I tried going through a good number of them and I can't find out what reinstalls these... Already tried quicklaunch from the swsetup, ill see if i can download it straight from HP.
the latest synaptics drivers try to default to the x86 version when you run the basic setup.exe. You have to go into the winWDF folder and then the x64 folder and run setup.exe from in there to make 'em install on windows 7 64-bit
The ati drivers make the laptop take an extra 15 seconds to boot not exactly sure why. It stays at the windows logo for an extra 15 seconds while if you uninstall the ati drivers its normal. Thats with using windows 7 x64. Anyone know if there are any better ati drivers that don't do this?
Justin. You need to make a note on the wired realtek drivers for the envy.
When installing them from a clean install they will fail.
it's a bios bug or something. It's stuck in deep sleep mode. However if you just go and put the computer into sleep mode after failing to install, and then take it out of sleep mode/stand by/whatever it's called it will finish installing the realtek drivers correctly
Hmmm -- never heard of that problem before.
Does anyone else have this problem? I'd like to hear from others who have tried out this package.

Added Broadcom Wireless LAN driver.
I have not heard of Atheros wireless LAN cards on the Envy 14 (at least not yet). For the Realtek Ethernet drivers, have you tried another version and did it cause the same problems? So far, I haven't heard of this issue happening even in my experience with them.
it's something to do with the card and motherboard not the drivers.
the actual realtek card goes into deep sleep mode for some reason you can pop it out of deep sleep mode long enough for it to realize there are drivers if you put the computer to sleep and wake it back up.
..or if you shut it down and turn it back on or I dunno (someone else didn't have it work when putting their envy to sleep). It's just really finicky.
edit: nvm. F.02 A is just the F.02 bios. the bios date is 4/22/2010 not 6/18/2010 or 7/1/2010 (I just checked the cva)
Has anyone had trouble with the intel turbo boost driver? I downloaded it from this site and then when i went to run the install it gave me an error message that said my system did not meet the minimum requirements. Any ideas?
The Intel Turbo Boost Technology driver works only on notebooks that use switchable graphics. Does your notebook have a Core i7 quad-core processor? If yes, it doesn't use switchable graphics and consequently does not need the Turbo Boost driver.

Looking at the package, the driver is still the same version. The package version itself is newer though -- maybe other files within them have changed (I haven't checked).
Don't feel stupid -- I once thought that the Turbo Boost Technology driver worked on systems with Core i7 and non-switchable graphics.
It's something that wasn't so readily apparent and I partially blame myself for not putting this piece of info up beforehand.
Is reinstalling the BIOS driver necessary? It gets wiped with a reinstallation of W7? There are a lot of drivers with just a windows vista link, or are those drivers that are compatible with both 7 and vista? Finally, do reinstalling drivers on 7 work the same as when doing them on a desktop(going to device manager and putting in the drivers)?
BIOS is flashed to your computer ROM permanently, so no need to re-flash after Windows install. All drivers are for both 7 and vista, 32bit and 64bit. Just download correct ones. I'm not sure what you mean by "going to device manager and putting in the drivers", but yes you can update drivers with device manager, but I suggest you to use the installers.
Everything works fine cept one thing. I am having trouble installing the bluetooth driver. It tells me that "no bluetooth device was detected." any ideas?
EDIT: The problem was enabling the bluetooth by the f10 key. I wouldn't enable it until I installed the HP Wireless assistant. After that it found the module and I was able to install the driver.
The HP Quick Launch Buttons enable the Fn key functionality on your keyboard.
Short descriptions of each driver were mentioned a long time ago in another driver thread -- it's a good idea but no one was willing to write anything up. I'm busy enough as it is trying to find the updates and posting them.

I realized that I forgot to mention what I changed yesterday. Thanks Z3tor for the BIOS updates, and remember to look at the Important Information section before flashing. The F.04 BIOS release was added, but it's recommended that you now use F.05 since it has already superseded F.04.

Updated Realtek PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Family Controller driver to version 6.241 for Windows Vista.
First time doing a fresh install here. I want to get this right so I am wondering if someone can help me a bit with question I got.
I am installing Intel Rapid Storage Technology (SATA AHCI) right now. I was reading the read me file at I am confused if I have to do the F6 preinstallation method described in 5.3. Am I supposed to do this part????
You don't have to do this part unless you're having issues during the Windows 7 installation process. You can install the Rapid Storage Technology after Windows is installed by simply executing the setup wizard.
Question:
I am uninstalling the old Intel Management Engine Interface, and when I click uninstall it asks if I also want to "delete the driver software for this device". Is this something I should do??
Yes, however you should try to uninstall IMEI through the Programs and Features control panel. This ensures that a more complete removal of the driver software occurs.
I did notice that after uninstall and install of the new Intel Management Engine Interface link provided (yes double checked I downloaded the newest one) I still get a product version of 6.0.0.1179 and not the specified 6.1.0.1042. Am I the only one? Its not a big deal though I am moving on lol.
how can I check if my Intel WiFi Link was set up correctly. I ran the program and it said "Now performing Intel driver installer operations" and then exists after a little bit. did it install?????????????????
