It is part of my ongoing, informal commitment to help assist those who had performed clean installs on their HP notebooks. Good Work! A DV4t drivers page in a welcome addition. Just wondering though about the BIOS F.30. I know that F.30 is the one that's " currently" posted at HP but they've also posted up a F.40 and a F.42. The newer BIOS posts at HP were posted... removed....re-posted.... and now have been removed and replaced with F.30 again (a second time). So what's up with that ??

I'm currently running F.42 on a CTO DV4t and it works perfectly... any thoughts.

 

What is the Softpaq number to this BIOS version? I'll try to see if I can find it.

I wish when they pulled stunts like posting a BIOS for all to download and then pull it within a couple of days, they’d at least let folks know why . ….and they’ve actually done this twice with this BIOS. Not so good.

 

Nice post justinkw1, if you are going to include the CQ45, which isn't that popular, you might want to consider the CQ40 (intel) too.

Dave, I read version F.34 was taken down by HP USA because of bugs causing 'black screens', whether that meant generally bad flashes or video problems I don't know, nor could I confirm the source. If it's taken down then I guess that can be taken as a bad sign but I would think for those that successfully flashed they should be okay otherwise you'd expect HP to issue some sort of warning / reflash advise. If you have F.42 and an eSata drive, can you check if it's selectable as a bootable drive in the BIOS. It use to be but the option seemed to be removed when F.22 came out.

I have dv4 1242tx and there is problem with fan noise. When i charge the laptop the fan spins at full speed even when i am not doing high cpu activity for long period of time creating noise. Also I disabled fan always enabled option in bois F.30 even then it creates noise. Laptop is working fine no issues but this annoying fan noise is killing me...Any body can guide me or is this issue of dv4. I also went to HP service center but they say it normally for fan to speedup during charging.

 

0.0…I’m not absolutely positive, but I seem to remember there was an issue with F.24 and bad BIOS flashes…. as opposed to F.34. The reason I say that is because when our unit was delivered during the holidays last year it came with F.24 and F.22 was the current post at HP and what most folks had installed. A couple of weeks later, F.24 was posted and some users had problems with the flash and bricked their new units. Perhaps F.34 also had problems too though?

Anyway, when F.30 was initially put up it was also taken down within a few days. It was then put up again. F.42 seems to run fine. The unit runs very cool with the fan set to always on in the BIOS, there is only a 3 or 4 sec. fan whirl-up at BOOT and then it’s quiet, and everything is working as advertised. Therefore, I think there’s probably no reason to go back and sooner or later F.4x will likely show up anyway.

If Justin or anyone wants to post the F.42 somewhere, let me know and I’ll send it along. If not…. that’s OK too… I understand…. beta BIOS perhaps? F.42 also has no specific option to BOOT from eSATA unless the device needs to be attached for detection. If that’s the case, I can’t check it for you because I don’t own an external eSATA drive. ( yet)

I am seriously considering about extending the list to include the Intel-based CQ40 series. Virtually everything is similar in terms of components -- even the BIOS is the same! I will have to modify the post slightly however to include it, although that will be quick to do.

As of right now, I think the F.30 BIOS will stay on the original post. However, if you do want to post the F.42 BIOS somewhere, you can post a link to those who may want it (I might mention your to-be post in the original post since it is technically not from the official source, but is still relevant).

Now, another question I would like to ask everyone: should I post the HP QuickPlay/DVD Play link? I realized Compaq owners don't use MediaSmart, but rather use HP DVD Play instead.

Yes, people had problems with F.24 and it was taken down for a while.

With F.42 (sp43868) there is now a fourth BIOS file, three for 30F7 and one for 1070 whatever that is. It may be possible that there is a problem with the flashing software rather than the BIOS. Either way if it has been taken down I would be cautious of posting it for use.

You will need a connected eSata to test as it's recognized as a "notebook harddrive". Pressing F9 during startup should take you to the select boot device where you should see 2 notebook harddrives if it works.

justinkw1, yes they seem pretty much the same and I think the CQ40 is more popular than the CQ45.

Good advice guys. I think I'll just run F.42 on ours and let posting it slide. Could end up opening a can of worms.

 

After testing some of these drivers on Windows 7 RTM, I added Windows 7 compatibility designations to the following:

• Intel WiFi Link 5100
• HP Integrated Bluetooth Module
• HP Quick Launch Buttons

Please let me know if any of the other drivers listed on the original post are compatible with Windows 7 (if they aren't already designated). Thanks!

Through the "hard" work of searching manufacturer websites mainly. Some are a little easier to find, while others had required a more exhaustive search. dannyres had also initially helped to provide some of the links that he had found (they are also posted in his own dv5t driver thread for similar components).

stye, it's recommended that you update your BIOS prior to installing Windows 7 (but it's not required). Sometimes HP slips in future feature support for the Windows 7 OS in a BIOS update.

Other than that, just install Windows 7 in a normal fashion. Once it is installed, you can simply download and install the necessary drivers that I listed on the original post. Please be sure to take a look for any notes that I posted for each driver, since some drivers may need to be installed in a certain way.

Simply launch the BIOS update executable and there will be easy instructions on how to flash the BIOS (it's easy as pressing a button ). There are guidelines and precautions that you should follow though, which will be shown right before the BIOS is flashed. The BIOS executable link is located near the bottom of the original post.

 

make sure your laptop is nice and cool while it is updating the bios if anything as in a sudden shut down during the process can cause trouble starting up your computer, your computer will just start up as a black screen and will shut down than you would have learn how to do a blind flash in order to restore your computer

 

A second update just a few hours after the last update -- new audio drivers now up on the original post. Like the last release, these originate from Microsoft Update. Thanks to seasalt29 and BamAlmighty for posting information about these drivers.

Since your BIOS version is F.31, no BIOS flash is currently needed at this point for your notebook. It seems that HP gave you a newer BIOS revision than the one that is posted on their website (hence, on here too...which is no surprise ). Since this is the case, you can just go ahead and proceed with Windows 7 installation then.

I just got a dv4t-1400, and put windows 7 ultimate RC on it. At first, many things werent working, but after a couple restarts, it got better. The touch volume controls work, but the lights don't change at all. (mute button color doesnt change, volume lights dont go up or down). I had an issue with scrolling on the trackpad, but that got resolved with a driver from this thread. Any driver for those touch volume buttons?

Also, I have g 105m gpu, and it vista it was rated like a 4.1, and in windows 7 it is like a 3.9. Do i need any additional drivers for it other than the one for the geforce 100 series on nvidias site?

The touch buttons should work as they should after the HP Quick Launch Buttons are installed. You should restart after the installation completes if you have not done so.

You do not need anything else for the NVIDIA GeForce 105M as far as I know besides the graphics driver.

 

HAHA, yes i did restart. After about 7 more restarts, the mute button turns red!

The volume touch controls still dont move up and down when I change the volume. Are they even supposed to?

Also, changing the topic a little: i installed the intel chipset utility on my dv4t, was i supposed to? Or will it change anything for the worse/better?

I don't think the volume control lights are supposed to change.

Yes, everyone should be installing the Intel Chipset Installation Utility. It provides the most current and most proper drivers for Intel-based motherboard components. I recommend extracting the self-extracting EXE you downloaded and running the Setup.exe file inside it using the -overall parameter.

Thanks a lot for all these drivers. I just installed XP on my dv4t-1400 as a dual boot since my VPN software isnt supported by Vista 64 bit. I got almost all the drivers installed except for the Audio Drivers. Your instructions say to use the Update Hardware Wizard. However which component am I supposed to update the drivers for?

The eight devices that are listed as unknown are the HP Quick Launch Buttons. Install the HP Quick Launch Buttons software to fix this issue -- restart the computer after this package has finished installing for good measure.

The audio device should have the standard Windows drivers installed, and it should be under the Sound, Video, and Game Controllers in the Device Manager. I believe the entry is called High Definition Audio Controller, or something along those lines. Update this device to the IDT driver that I posted.

i am having an problem with Yahoo Messenger Web Cam. i have installed Windows 7 and its working just f9 no issues and updated to all the latest driver.

i have Media Smart Web cam soft installed. But in Yahoo messenger it get stuck whenever i opened and after few second... i mean matter of 30 sec and it gets stuck and freeze so i have to reopen it.

anybody is having any problem can you please check and help me to solve this issue.

do i need to get or install any other software.. for web cam i guess there is one more software for Web cam i dont remember but can you please guide me or check any of you guys having any problem.

how can i resolve this.

The items I have under my Sound, Video and Game Controllers are just the legacy codecs that come standard with Vista. Do I need to uninstall these before I install the IDT drivers from the first post?

You do not need to uninstall any of the devices (that were installed using the built-in Windows XP drivers). You can simply use the Update Driver wizard to update the High Definition Audio device with the new IDT drivers.

The main reason I am removing HP QuickTouch is because it is not really a driver, but more of an optional add-on that isn't very useful. Also I updated Realtek driver links due to problems of properly redirecting to the appropriate drivers.

An application update to MediaSmart MVP is now available that "resolves an issue with the system losing the Internet connection when using a D-Link Wireless-N router." Version 2.2.2829 must be installed first before installing this patch (which is also available on the original post). I consider this application update optional since not everyone is affected, but it is nevertheless posted for those having this exact problem.

Installed this update to the IDT audio on a fully functional, stable, and updated DV4t 1000 CTO (F.42 BIOS) and the update toasted the audio, mute button, volume control, and bluetooth. To be more specific:

1. The audio no longer functioned via headphones.
2. The mute control functioned but no longer changed to amber when mute was activated.
3. The volume controll slider no longer functioned at all.
4. At boot, and after login, the system gave a Hid-Compliant device driver failure warning. After tracking it down I found that it was the Bluetooth, though the BT mouse stilled functioned but required re-pairing at every BOOT.

I tried all combinations of uninstalls and re-installs with the latest versions of QLB’s, Quick Touch, IDT Audio, and BT and could not return the unit to fully normal operation without uninstalling the new IDT driver and restoring the system. Perhaps this issue is related only to the early versions of the DV4t, but be aware and create a good restore point before you give the posted IDT Audio driver a try.
