It is part of my ongoing, informal commitment to help assist those who had performed clean installs on their HP notebooks. perfect post! i have a dv9543ev notebook.but i didnt manage to upgrade intel drivers like intel usb host controller even though i run the Version 9.1.0.1012 of Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility. installation says that is complete. what to do?

Apparently the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility doesn't automatically update the USB drivers if you use the setup process (I've had this problem before as well). You can update them manually by extracting the setup archive (or by extracting the zip version), and then go through the process of updating the USB devices using the Device Manager located in the Control Panel.

the version of the usb controllers for example remain 8.0.1.1008. any other ideas?

As for the Intel USB drivers, I looked at the actual reference INF files and the version is v8.0.0.1008. I looked at my own USB drivers that I have installed and it says the same version. I think DriverUpdaterPro is mistaken, because it is thinking that the driver version should have the same number as the setup package version (v9.1.0.1007), which it doesn't. See if DriverUpdaterPro actually downloads a new Intel USB driver; I'm curious as to whether the one they offer is an updated version.

I have an HP Pavilion DV6980ei ( http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/za/en/ho/WF06b/321957-321957-3329744-64354-64354-3725196-3770553.html ) which came with Vista Home Premium but i formatted and installed Windows XP Pro.

Every software/driver seemed to install well with the exception of the Wireless component:

- Broadcom drivers - the driver installs well but i cant find any wireless networks (i know for sure there is at least one to pick from) - also, the physical wireless switch doesnt seem to do anything (orange led doesnt turn to blue).

- HP Wireless Assistant installation aborts with an error: 2753

Any ideas?

I found a solution to the Wireless Assistant problem. I picked a different version which installed ok - sp39041.exe (3.2 MB) .

Now, the other issue remains - "cant find any wireless networks".

In other words, i'm fuxored.

 

As I recall, this wireless issue had only occurred with the dv60xx-dv64xx and dv90xx-dv94xx series. The dv65xx-69xx and dv95xx-99xx series are unaffected by this wireless problem (as they are a refreshed product line).

You might want to check whether the wireless network adapter is disabled in the Network Connections control panel. If it is disabled, enable the connection and then try to connect.

If that doesn't work, try using the Brodcom Wireless LAN drivers in the original post -- I added the links in just for you.

If it still cannot find networks, try using the Broadcom wireless driver that HP supplied on your product page and see if the wireless works again - http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...n&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=228&product=3770552. Remember to first uninstall the driver that was previously installed.

I am thinking of installing "Essential System Updates for Windows Vista SP1" on my dv2750, will it work? Also what are the updates for SP1?

 

I've listed the updates in my thread here It is just a bunch of KB updates from MSFT.

 

I have a dv6500t and am still having problems with recovering from a failed hp sys recovery cd set recovery attempt. ( see my post earlier today under the thread, "Problem with Recovery DVD and DV 9500t " post number 98 (last one).
I still need my original Roxio software, not found on the recovery media. Any suggestions or links to restore it? HP, on my drivers and software download page, has a "patch" for the Roxio, but it won't install without the program. I am on 64 bit vista ultimate. My current faulty recovery media is part number 446545-004. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

 

If you can't find it anywhere online you can actually extract the data on the recovery disc and get the SwSetup folder out of it (without actually using the recovery discs). It's a bit of a pain to do, however. There is a thread somewhere on this forum explaining how to do it.

 

I don't have the link or the info on this. In fact, the folders on the disk keep the programs hidden so I cannot do it myself and haven't found the link. In fact I am not sure the above disk set sent by HP even includes this software. Wish badly to have my missing application and driver software Please paste the link for me for this. thanks

 

Perhaps you are referring to orev's guide to accessing HP recovery disc files - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=238440. Note that it is indeed for advanced users only, and it can be time-consuming...but if you've got the time to play around with the recovery disc, go for it.

Thanks for the links to these new drivers. I was already aware of the Realtek Audio drivers, but I didn't know about the NVIDIA drivers (must have been released today ).

ok i suggest you to remove all nvidia drivers and programms before you install new version. otherwise you may get lower performance on windows aero. i now have windows aero performance graded as 4.9 with 8600gs now.

 

I've updated the original thread on February 20, 2009 with the following changes:

• Added HP QuickPlay version 3.7.6112.
• Updated Intel graphics driver version numbers (as now indicated at the Intel Download Center).
• Added Realtek LAN driver version 5.714 (thanks, dannyres).

I have also made reading the thread a little easier with the introduction of bullets if there are multiple links for a driver (due to multiple operating systems).

It seems that Realtek may have disabled direct linking to their FTP servers (if you are a guest or anonymous user). Use the link that is described in the notes section for this driver, and it should take you to the download page that will allow you to get the current drivers.

The QuickPlay update notification for the same version seems to happen to me too and for no apparent reason (it's been doing that for the last couple of versions). I just simply choose to ignore it.

When I mean uninstalling previous versions of Essential System Updates, I just mean using the Programs and Features control panel, finding "ESU for Vista", and selecting "Uninstall."

Essential System Updates is useful because it contains Windows Vista post-SP1 hotfixes that are not immediately available to the general public (either through Microsoft Update or Microsoft's Knowledge Base). I regard ESU as a recommended set of updates, but they aren't required.

The hotfixes included in the current version of Essential System Updates will be included with Windows Vista Service Pack 2.

 

Hey justinkw1, check out sp42495, it is version 12.1.0.0 of the Synaptics driver and I think it is compatible with the models in your thread. Unfortunatly it doesn't work with my dv5t though.

If you install Windows 7, most of the hardware will work immediately after installation. In addition, you can install any of the Windows Vista drivers from the original post on Windows 7 and they will work.

The dv6500 series does not come with an eSATA Express card interface...if you purchased this card separately, you may have to get the driver directly from the manufacturer. Can you give us more information on this eSATA express card?

 

I think the newest version of the Synaptics TouchPad drivers seem to disable scrolling by default for some reason. To re-enable it, go to the Control Panel and go to Mouse Properties. In there, go to the Device Settings tab and click on the "Settings..." button. On the left, select "Virtual Scrolling" and put a check next to "Enable vertical scrolling" and/or "Enable horizontal scrolling" when it appears on the right. Select "OK" and "OK" to apply the settings and close the windows.

 

does anyone know how to configure my two Hard drives (they are exactly the same) to work in raid? i think this can be configured only through bios which is locked on hp notebooks.

when i first bought my notebook i had a grade 5.1 on hard drives.then i formatted my vista to ultimate x64 an now i have grade 4.7...

i think this is because they dont work in raid any more?

Basically they have changed their algorithm for scores for hard drives in Win7 to take into account certain things that can slow hard drives down. My score has dropped from 5.4 to 1.something.

 

I dont have win 7 yet!

 

I'm thinking that Windows Vista's stability and reliability updates can tend to "re-scale" the ratings (who knows?). Anyway, I wouldn't worry over the fact that the numbers change rather randomly from one test to another - the Windows Experience Index can be very arbitrary sometimes.

 

you are absolutely right.its just that i have the lowest grade there on hard disk.. ;-(
