Forgot to say Envy 17 in title![]()
After hours of isolating the problem, I have figured it out!!!
First, there are two versions of the audio driver:
1. SWSetup folder: /drivers/lvAudio
2. HP's support website
I need to test them further.
I also want to say that almost all audio problems are from the software side because I went through all of these issues and I know my speakers work 100% fine with the OS it shipped in and have a video of them. On the clean install, the drivers cause problems.
I have had these issues together or one at a time:
1. no sound from speakers or jack
2. MAJOR cracking in left speaker that sounds like its blown
3. static on loud volume
"1. no sound from speakers or jack"
I turned off wifi thinking its windows installing an alternative driver thats breaking the driver I am installing and resulting in no sound. The sound WORKED but I did not see any changes in window update or the new device install dialogue so I suspected it was the intel display audio driver. When I opened Device Manager however, I noticed the HP Wireless Audio driver installed. Then it hit me..... I installed HP Wireless Audio software from swsetup folder and sound worked again with wifi or without!
"2. MAJOR cracking in left speaker that sounds like its blown"
This sounded scary but I knew my speakers work because I used them before the clean install. I turned off wifi and uninstalled the IDT HD Audio in control panel's unisntall programs and restarted. Then I installed the driver from the SWSetup folder and this cracking is gone.
"3. static on loud volume"
I now hear static when volume is loud and the only fix I have right now is disabling beats audio in the beats control panel. But this is terrible and I am sure there is a fix because this is beats software in short:
Beats enabled: overblow all windows 7 sound settings
Beats disabled: turn off all audio boost
With the right sound settings in windows 7, this should be fixed and I will keep playing with them until fixed and report back here.
I would say sound is acceptable here because a little less volume and the sound is fine.
Test you speakers:
Put volume on max and try the first 10 seconds of this song.

Still waiting on my Envy 17 3d 3000, but my dv6 select Beats plays fine for all this. I hope my Envy works as well as this thing!
