I figured that I would post this since my refurbished 15-3040nr had really bad keyboard flex under the A,S & D keys.

Below is a picture of the metal tray/guard that the keyboard is actually laying on when it is screwed down to the palm rest. Between the keyboard back and the tray is roughly a 2-3mm gap and the keyboard just bounces inside that area when typing on it. I simply took the metal tray/guard of and placed a 2-3 inch layered piece of electrical tape on the metal tray. If you look at the picture, this is the opposite side from the side that the tape needs to be on. The location is marked with a red square, but be sure to place the tape on the opposite side from what you see in the picture! The layered electrical tape is simply electrical tape that is cut in 2-3 inch strips and stacked one piece on top of another until I reached a 2-3mm height. Be careful not to stack the tape too high or you will cause your keyboard to bulge out when it is reassembled - too low and you will still have flex. Mine is roughly 4 pieces.

Please be sure that you are adept at disassembling laptops or at least fairly mechanically enclined before attempting this. There are a fair amount of screws on this laptop.

Lastly, this does NOT affect the back lit keyboard. It still works perfectly.

I used the service manual located HERE to provide the dis-assembly instructions.

    Good luck!
