I bought my Compaq R3000Z lappy on Sep 2004, there was no battery issue untill today,

    1. I can't turn on the laptop w/ battery in the laptop, but w/o AC adapter, the power light won't turn on.
    2. I can turn on the laptop w/ battery in the laptop and w/ AC adapter, but when remove the AC adapter, the laptop turns off
    3. When the laptop is on Ac adapter, Windows show 100% battery, and mobilemeter also show 100% power in battery and the wear level is only 8%.

Here is the battery info from MobileMeter:
    Items Value
    Manufacturer Hewlett-Packard
    Device Name Primary
    Remaining Watta... 59644 mWn
    Designed Capacity 65120mWn
    Fully Charged Capacity 59644 mWn
    Wear Level 8%
    Voltage 16389mV

I didn't do any battery calibration recently, and I always use AC adapter and keep the battery in the laptop.

Is this a battery problem or other problem like motherboard?
    How to ix the problem?

Looks like your battery might be shot since you said that the laptop runs fine on the A/C adapter.

Li ion batteries have a life cycle, it does not depend on the charge/recharge cycle. If the battery has been at high charge rate most of the time, they do tend to lose charge over time and Li ion usually lasts for around 3 - 4 years(maybe 5). So it might not be a surprise that yours might be dead a little bit earlier.

If it's dead, why the windows and mobilemeter show 100% power in battery???

Well, I cant be 100% sure without testing the battery, but as I said before the capacity of any Li ion battery decreases over time and in your case it might have reached a too low capacity for the laptop to turn on. Windows and MM are most probably reporting that battery is charged to 100% of whatever little charge is left.

If you do want to be sure, try testing the battery on another similar laptop and/or try any other working battery on your laptop.

    Here's my err diagnostic opinion.

Hmm, didn't catch the "September 2004" part. Most likely no warranty. I'd get another battery... You can always return it if that's not the problem, and then worry about the system board.
