[HP 8510p] Problem with microfon input

Hi guys!

I use a USB headset for programs like skype. Now I wanted to use the microfon input (not the buildin mircofon!). But it does not work. So i tested the microfon also under XP pc and it did also not work. Okay, so I testeed the mic input with another mic ( a really small one). On Xp It works perfectely, after I set some soundmax settings to something other and then back (I have soundmax onboard on the dekstop pc).

But with my 8510 still no voice input with the mic input! I have seen that there are (too) many different 8510p models. I think I have one with the Soundmax chip. I think this because there was only soundmax drivers for Vista 4 months ago on the HP site. But now, there arent any audio drivers for vista!!!

I don't know excactly which configure I have. Where can I see that???

I tested ith with the mic input activated and as standard mic and it did not help. Also I activated parallely the the stereomix, but did also not help.

1. Could it be I have a wrong audio driver? But the speakers and the build-in mic works.
2. Is my hp8510p broken?
3. Setting problems?

If it is broken it means it was broken since delivering!

So let me recap:

You used to use a USB headset, it worked fine.
You want to use a headset with the microphone input, but under Vista it does not work.

Is this correct?

Anyway I'd say that more than likely it's a driver issue or something wrong with Vista. I know when I had XP getting my mic to work without using the built-in one was a pain at times. Unfortunately I don't have a mic lying around to test my port right now.

I went to my recording sound properties window in Vista and it is nearly identical to yours (I also have soundmax), but the microphone is set to default.

Perhaps the mic port functions as line-in and microphone, and you can swap the functions? I don't know. But I see yours is set to line-in instead of mic, which might make a difference.

I'll try and find a mic to test sometime this week though. Hope this helps!
