Does anyone else had any issue with the wifi card on this computer just suddenly disappears when you close the lid and then open it again later? The system doesn't recognize it's there, though if I turn the laptop off and on again it seems to work fine again (this doesn't always work, though).

And would this be a software issue, or an error which I should complain about at the store?

Do you have your computer set to sleep or hibernate when you close the lid?

It's set to "wait-mode" (fans stopping, still keeping things running in memory), and hibernate after 30 minutes.

That's probably the reason. You have to go into your power settings and change the close lid thing to do nothing. I am certain that will correct the problem. I mean you could always set it to hibernate so it pretty much just pauses everything and shuts down versus sleep mode that turns off the wifi, etc.

Are you sure? When I say it's not recognizing the card, it means that re-scanning for new hardware won't show it. Can sleep mode do that?

If possible update your BIOS and drivers. They usually have fixes for this sort of wake-up issues..

Also Check the Wireless adapter settings through device manager and check the power settings. Theres also the Vista Advanced power settings to check.

I know Vista at one point had an issue with the TCP Stack not responding correctly once recovering from sleep/hibernate might be a similar issue?

The Vista should be up-to-date, with SP1, so I'm guessing something not related to the OS.

As far as I know, the shipped drivers are the same as the ones from HP's site (I forced it to re-apply drivers from the site, though, to be sure). As for BIOS, I'm not sure. Haven't even found a button to boot BIOS setup.

And the network card has limited amount of settings with these drivers (It's an Atheros AR5007 card), and everything seems correctly set in the power settings.

    The BIOS is up-to-date.

Did you install any VPN software/firewall or was this issue present even before the installation of any additional software. Usually, sleep related issues are mostly related to driver bugs. I would suggest trying a different driver. HP might no yet have an updated driver but you could try one of these from lv2go & see if it fixes the driver issue...

P.S: Those aren't official HP recommended drivers, so I would urge caution if you try those. Typically you could end with having to put the old driver back on again or worst you would have to reinstall the OS.

No VPN or Firewall software. I've not installed a lot of software on the system yet, just basic stuff like codecs, media players, web browser and some games.

I tried to disable a "Let the computer turn off the power to this device" option now, gonna see if that has any effect before I try any new drivers. Though, I never had such an issue on other laptop with that option on or off.

The option did not help, and it won't update to the driver supplied on that site. Now I'm out of ideas. Nothing else I can do?
