Hey everyone. My year-old dv6500t tends to randomly turn on at night while I'm sleeping. When I wake up, I find it on with the fan going full blast. Is there any way I can stop this? Thanks! :)

Any more conditions? Perhaps windows update is set to automatically update at night... Check the update settings, and then we can look for other problems..

One surefire way to stop your computer from booting itself is to unplug it and take the battery out.

But to be honest with you, I have no idea what's actually causing the problem. Check windows update like sesshomaru said. Perhaps it has something to do with QuickPlay? (just guessing)

Check your event logs and see what time your laptop actually turns on in the middle of the night. See if there is a pattern of what time and what day the laptop turns on at. You might even see that a program is set to run, or that a Windows process is set to run during that time and may turn on your laptop so that it can.

Other than that, do you haven anti-virus? It could be possible that you have a virus and it is causing your laptop to turn on randomly. Now don't panic or anything because I said the V word, I'm just thinking out all the variables right now. Besides, if you don't have anti-virus (even if you do, make sure you are updating and running it regularly) you should get it now.

Thanks for all the (very quick!) input, guys. I tried turning off automatic updates, so we'll see if that works. Thanks again! :)

In my case, it was actually the HP Update software that was starting up my PC, not Windows. Just an FYI.
