Hello everyone
I own a HP Pavilion dv6137tx notebook computer. It came with Windows XP Media Center Edition preinstalled and a few weeks later, I got Windows Vista Home Premium Edition from HP as part of their Express Upgrade to Windows Vista scheme. This package consists of two dvds: the first DVD contains HP Drivers and the second contains Vista Home Premium edition.
I created the HP Recovery DVDs first. These bring the system back to XP Media Center.
Following the advice given in the accompanying documentation, I upgraded my flash BIOS from the first dvd, after which the installer demands insertion of the second dvd to install Vista. When I boot into Vista, I get a message saying that the upgrade feature has been disabled and that if I want to upgrade over my existing installation, I have to restart the installation manually from within XP.
So I tried to install Vista over XP by invoking the installer manually. However, after installation my graphics card (GeForce Go 7400) and sound card were not detected. I managed to install HP updated drivers for Windows Vista from the first dvd, but that did not solve the sound problem. So, I did a clean install of Vista after using the recovery DVDs to install XP first. This is my current Vista installation.
I am facing the following problems:
(a) HP's QuickPlay buttons do not work properly in Vista (I understand this is an issue with QuickPlay's incompatibility with Vista, so its not really an impt issue right now, but I'm mentioning it anyway).
(b) HP Battery Check does not appear in Windows Vista, even though I have manually downloaded and installed it several times. The only way to invoke a program that resembles Battery Check is to use Help & Support. I get an error saying that my primary battery has not been detected.
(c) HP's TotalCare application and System Restore, System Recovery applications are absent in Vista.
I'm thinking of trying an upgrade to Vista yet another time from XP after using the recovery DVDs to restore the system to factory settings. According to HP's customer support technician, Vista has not been installed correctly. As I tried this upgrade option thrice (unsuccessfully) before resorting to a clean Vista install, I'm somewhat skeptical about its outcome the fourth time I try.
But maybe I'm making a mistake somewhere. Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
