Hey guys, first thing first this isn't my computer this is my GF.

    Info:
Compaq Presario C500 (click here for more info on computer)

So yeah the Dog ate the cable, and she found this
    "AC Power Adapter 0950-4081"
and on it is say's " For use with IEC 60950 Products only"

So Can we use the known HP power Adapter, on her Laptop? Or can't we.

PS: We have turned it on with the other one, and had it on for only 15 mins. But the bottom got hot fast.

Atleast your dog didn't eat your homework. ;)

I don't recommend it, simply because the adapter isn't specifically made for it. Especially since the specs are different. I'd just buy a new adapter made for it.

First, smack your dog upside the head. No, not really. If you are in the US, just go to Best Buy or Circuit City and get a universal AC adaptor. That or you could just order one from HP.

Hi, this is the girlfriend speaking, the owner of the dog and laptop.

First off, at the time my homework was on my laptop lol.
Second, this was what I was wondering and BF wasnt sure either. But would it be alright for just short use until I get the new laptop?

I thought of doing that, however the part of the cord that was chewed in two, was extremely close to the box. (smaller than 1cm. length left) So I striped the plastic and was going to hotwire it. However when I tried, there was not enough cable left at that point in order to do so.

I was going to buy a new cable, however I have decided to put my money to better use and just go on ahead and buy a tablet PC. The new laptop is in the mail as we speak. Really all I need it for right now is just temperary use (check on the progress of shipping for the new laptop) and quick check of email.

I can check my email almost anytime here on boyfriend's computer, however I am not always home over here and at another house with virtually no access to computer there. That, is why this is a problem.

...and yes, I did smack him. He was teething so I couldnt be too mad at him. Im the one who left the door open and cord on the floor after all.

I wouldn't since the operating characteristics are so different.

If you do, just be aware that you stand a very good chance of damaging your laptop and/or battery permanently and even to the point of possibly starting a fire.

Do not leave the adapter plugged into the laptop unattended should you decide to use it anyway.

Well, I guess you could have someone who knows about electronics splice the cable for you so you could have it for temporary use.
