Not sure if that's directed towards me, but if so this is what I asked in response to a question.

"The 650M runs skyrim at greater than 40FPS on Ultra settings? I know mine doesn't and notebookcheck would also say otherwise. Skyrim does OK on high settings. Ultra is simply too much.

The 650M is a nice card, but it's certainly not a card for serious gamers that want to run things like Battlefield 3 on high or ultra settings. Even the 7970M doesn't get 60 FPS on ultra for BF3. It gets 70 FPS or so on high. The 650M FPS is in the low 30's for BF3 on high settings which is not great if you're competitive. "

Your video confirms my observations. A question was asked by someone interested in getting this laptop whether they could run current games at 40+ FPS.

"Well I like to run my games at as high settings as possible with the FPS around at least 40 or so so I guess 2GB it is."

Your video confirms that the game runs at high 20s low 30s FPS. This doesn't mean the game is unplayable or enjoyable. It just doesn't meet the 40 FPS requirement.

If this was not directed towards those statements, I will edit this post. I'm not picking a fight or anything. I just want to make sure to clarify. The 650M is a solid video, just not what someone looking to achieve 40+ FPS on the highest settings is looking for.

Definitely not directed at you nor do I remember making those comments, sorry you have been carrying that around with you and I invite you to leave the post unedited.

Some guy in another thread insisted that Skyrim and other games were unplayable on the 650, a card which he doesn't have. He got his "facts" from googling other idiot's opinions on whether or not this card can game. Also High 20's low 30's would be considered 30fps avg.

With the AA and AF at 2 you get about 40. Still pretty impressive imo considers the difference is unnoticeable.

OK cool. Yes, I definitely agree is pretty impressive considering this is a consumer mid range / bargain laptop and can certainly do casual gaming very well.

    Carry on. :)

to be fair to whoever this is directed towards, 20-30 framerate is unplayable to me

i need at least 60 framerate and have to lower some settings with my 6770m to get that with Skyrim

I believe it was directed at me. Our friend here did not seem to be capable of accepting my simple statement which was "The 650m cannot run Skyrim and BF3 in 1080p Ultra 'very well'", the very well part being a quote from him.

I got my facts from notebookcheck.com's mobile GPU gaming chart and a youtube video which clearly shows a guy's 650m struggle to maintain mid/high 20's on High/Ultra at 1600x900 in BF3 (multiplayer though) on his Alienware m14x. Nor are these opinions, nor are they from 'idiots'.

Aside from this, these results are obviously very impressive considering the capabilities of this GPU.

As I have an XBOX360 which I use quite regularly I am used to playing at 30FPS, but at that speed the smallest FPS drop is visible and annoying. I'd say a game runs well on PC when it has ~45FPS in a not very intensive/normal situation, so it doesn't drop to annoying levels at intensive parts.

Your statement was that Skyrim is unplayable at 1080p, let alone Maxed out. You have been proven wrong, now go away.

he also said battlefield 3 at ultra

notebookcheck was pretty accurate with your video so i'd be willing to bet the 14avg fps is correct for that game

and "unplayable" is subjective because 30 framerate that dips into the 20s is NOT playable for a lot of pc gamers

He said there is no way the games would be playable at ultra, on fhd. If I set the aa and af down to 2 the fps goes up to 40. Ultra is ultra and playable is playable.

Ultra is everything on max. Not 2x AA and AF. Max. The settings you are talking about are not fully Ultra as a result.

Playable is playable? A turtle is fast...compared to a snail. But for most people it's still retardedly slow.
Please go ahead and make a poll so that you can see how many people find below 30 FPS playable for any game, let alone for one which is not only real time, but requires fast actions quite regularly.

Also while you're trying to imply that you have proven me wrong - which you didn't do - let's not forget about your orignial statement that the 650m "runs BF3 and Skyrim on Ultra very well". It doesn't. For most people very well doesn't mean below 30 and ~15 FPS. So while I won't return the insults you keep throwing at me if I were you I'd rethink my reasoning or try to accept their falseness.

Your original argument has been proven wrong. You can continue to pick and choose what parts of your argument you think you can get away with. But Skyrim is playable maxed out on a 650m on 1080p.
