Hi,
I have a nc8430 that of course came with everything to create bootable DVDs that should allow me to reinstall everything.
Problem is that I have an issue with a software and the company's tech support told me to run a file checking command on XP (the SFC /SCANNOW command)
This command requires me to put the original XP Pro SP2 into the CD drive.
Now I called HP and they told me that they don't send this CD to customers, that the only thing that they would ship would be the copy of the original restore DVDs (which are useless).
They even suggested that I should buy XP Pro SP2 from Microsoft.
This is nonsense. I won't buy a product for which I have a legal licence.
Any way to reconstruct the bootable WinXP Pro SP2 CD???
Thanks for any help

Hmm...you might be. I presume you have the original install of the software and didnt delete any of the extra stuff HP installs on the HDD. If you havent then it should be possible to recreate a Windows XP CD using the C:\i386 folder which is basically your Windows installation folder.
Search through the forums, there was a thread detailing the steps to create a bootable Windows XP CD using this method. Plus there are resources online as well. -
Hi,
well finally I found my XP Pro SP1 from my former laptop and found a way to turn it into SP2 using the SP2 patch (there is an update command to prepare an original CD into a new version).
Still, it didn't help for what I needed.
Finally I copied the I386 directory to C:\I386 and modified the SourcePath variable in the registry (the one under "Windows NT").
Now everything's fine.
I at least turned the new CD into a bootable XP Pro SP2 one.
Might be helpful someday.
