---Does your Dv9500t support up to 4 GB of RAM?---
The reason for my query is that my dv9500t's (dv9543cl) System Info sheet states that it has 2 RAM modules with each supporting 1 GB of RAM each. However on the HP website they offer the 9500 with up to 4 GB of RAM. Is this just an HP thing that makes you pay extra for them to put in the 4 gb of ram? Or is it added in without being supported on the other models? I personally have put some thought into this "issue" and would suspect that the 32-bit OS wouldnt allow it to use all the RAM, but still that doesnt explain why there would be a maximum capacity of 1gb per slot.
To view the maximum amount of ram per slot go to HP Help & Support >System Info> Memory(RAM)
I would greatly appreciate the input of fellow Dv9543CL owners and other 9500t owners in this matter.
Thank you for your interest and help.

I don't own a HP anymore, but this isn't really limited to HP only. It seems that other laptop manufacturers can also be unclear about what there machines will or will not support.
This is what i know and it's counts for most if not all notebooks you can buy today (or to be more specific; with a 945/965 chipset): You need a 64 bit OS to support 4Gb of ram. a 32 bit version will support a maximum of 3Gb only so it wouldn't matter if you put in more, it'll only use 3Gb (dual channel).
I'm sure HP didn't stick in more memory then used in the notebooks they sell simply because memory costs money, and they want to make money not give it away
So if you have a 64 bit OS you can just upgrade the memory to 4GB yourself, it's cheaper then when you let HP do it and it won't cost you your warranty. -
The short answer is yes. HP revised their official statement and has publicly declared that all the new Pavilions support up to 4 GB of RAM.
However, like Storm3016 said, to utilize all 4 GB, you will need a 64-bit OS. -
Thanks a lot guys, I was wondering if i should add a 2 gb stick of RAM in and now the answer seems to be yes
, but why would it say only 2 gb is supported when you can have up to 3gb on a 32bit OS
-
And Mine also says it only supports 1 gb per slot (2) so how does that fit into the equation.
-
The original 9000 series only officially supported 2GB of RAM. Then they made a BIOS update and some chipset changes, and then it worked with 4GB. Then the 9500 came out, and it also supports 4GB. Of course by that point there was tons of documentation already written that said only 2GB was supported, so it's just that those documents are out of date.

It MUST support upto 4GB. If it's a DV9500 series.

I know for a fact the the DV9500t does support up to 4GB of RAM. Heres the thing, there are only two slots and if you have 1GB of RAM it is 2x512MB sticks, if you have 2GB of RAM it is 2x1GB sticks, and if you have 4GB it is 2x2GB sticks. HP's price on 4GB of RAM is rediculous (around $475). I just bought a DV9500t and only got the 2GB of RAM because I can buy 2x2GB of RAM from newegg for only $200, and I'll have my 2x1GB sticks to sell. Also, like stated above, the only way for a computer to be able to use 4GB of RAM you need a 64bit OS. I also only bought the 120GB 7200 RPM HDD because I can get a 200GB 7200 RPM for $200 from newegg as well which is cheaper than going with their options for a larger storage capacity because the DV9500T has 2 HDD slots.
If anybody is looking to buy 2x1GB 667Mhz RAM let me know, because as soon as I get my laptop in a couple weeks I will be looking to sell them to upgrade to 4GB.
One question I have is, what is the maximum speed RAM that the DV9500t can utilize? -
There is a limit of 667MHz for RAM installed. Even if you put 800MHz memory - it will work, but with 667MHz. No reason to spend extra money, as 800MHz costs more.

In the end, with the 8600 video card, I am not so sure you get any more usebale ram with a 64 bit OS than with a 32 bit OS.
I got my 4 gb for less than $200, so (for me) it was a great investment, as I use a lot of ram running multiple OS's at the same time with VMware Workstation. -
The 8600m GS uses only 256MB of RAM, unless you up it manually to 768MB, so you do get the full use out of 4GB of RAM with a 64 bit OS. If you didn't have a 64bit OS, the 256 would be taken out of the 3GB that the 32bit OS can see and there would be 1GB wasted still.

Thanking you in advance for an answer!
