I have a laptop I bought back in October of 2006, and I got it with ADP plan. That expires in about 3 months.

It fell from my friends 3rd story apartment balcony, and of course smashed into at least 20 pieces. Now I am about to call and set up a replacement... The question I have is will they rebuild this one, or will they simply replace it with another newer one?

I would prefer a newer one as this one has been a bit of a pain here and there. (dv 6125SE) An want to know what I need to say to get a new replacement one. Should I ask for a Case manager?

    Let me know thanks guys.

Lol. What a good way to make HP pay up before your warranty ends in an attempt to get a newer laptop. If it broke into 20 pieces, they will probably replace it with a refurbished unit of either the same machine or a similar machine.

Normally the warranty is void after you use the accidental once to rebuild/replace.

Well I have never used it before, and actually its once per year that you can get it replaced/repaired under the ADP (I used to work for HP a while back ;])

And what do you mean "get them to pay up"? It really did happen that way, I am not going to say how many beers were involved, or what lead up to it falling, but it did happen on accident. lol

It is a limited edition that they made in 06 that wasn't made for very long, maybe 4 months or so. Hence the "SE" in the name. Its all white. So what are the chances of a refurb? or what do you mean similar nature?

    Do they ever offer upgrades?

Wow that must have been fun to watch it fall. If you've worked for HP, why don't you know the answer to your own question?

I guess not. I remember seeing someone post that they got different and newer laptops when HP replaced them.

If you damaged it, you should contact them regardless. It's different for the ADP replacement and "three strike" replacement.

When you have a problem with your notebook, they send you a box for them to repair it. If, by the third repair the problem has not been resolved, HP may replace your notebook. Usually they customize a notebook with similar screen measurements from the website and follow a "meet or beat" specification policy. They do value input and sometimes offer the occasional upgrade for free for your frustrations.

If you damage your laptop, they will send you a box for you to send in your notebook. At the repair center they determine if your notebook is salvageable, beyond repair or intentionally damaged. If they determine that it is beyond repair, then someone would contact you and schedule a replacement. If you owned a "pre-configured" model, they tend to choose a similar pre-configured model. However, if your notebook seems like it can be repaired, they will do that.

It really depends on a variety of factors to know what you'll get. However, does it really matter? YOUR LAPTOP IS BROKEN! Get it repaired at least. Who cares if you get a replacement right now. It sounds like you're giving us a scenario and trying to guess if they would in fact replace it for you (FRAUD). Gosh... lol

No, it is in fact in many pieces, and yes I was drunk when it happened, but was in no way on purpose. I just wanted a heads up in advance, as I hate dealing with this kind of stuff.

As for getting a new one, of course I will admit I would love a new, or at least newer model laptop, who wouldn't? I just wanted to know what the prognosis was.

    Thanks
