I just recently bought a Compaq Presario V2000Z with a 1 gb stick of memory, and I wanted to buy another one and max out my system's memory at 2 gb. Using CPU-Z I found that my system came with Infineon memory; however, I'm unsure if it's alright to buy the same exact type of memory from a different brand and install it (by the way, it's 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM DDR 333 (PC 2700) notebook memory).

If someone could tell me whether it is alright to mix and match different brands of the exact same type of memory, and then if it is, what a good / low cost option is for 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM DDR 333 (PC 2700) notebook memory, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have mixed brands many times.

As long as they are the same type of memory it should be just fine.

No problem with mixing and matching.
I've tried crucial in the past. Great service and product.

    512MB pc2700 around $65
    1GB pc2700 around $125

    I've recently bought 1gb stick.

Anybody confirm that a 1 Gig Crucial or Kingston works?

I saw a mention in another group about memory compatibility.
This isn't exactly the same, since the v2000z has an AMD processor.
But it doesn't list 1 Gig crucial, for instance, as being tested and compatible.
I don't wanna buy and then find out it won't work.

    Thanks in advance.

also keep in mind that (as far as i know and what people posted) If you use both memory slots on the V2000z/L2000, your memory speed might come down to 133mhz /PC2100.

with only one memory slot occupied my v2000z memory runs @ 166mhz/ PC2700, and with both slots occupied it runs 133mhz/PC2100 (HP/Kingston)

    this is also using CPU-Z
check out these 2 threads about memory performance on the v2000z/L2000

I do not know anyone here with both HP/HP memrory on their systems and runs at 166mhz. So i cannot confirm that it is HP only to get 166mhz on cpu-z

right now i'm using my notebook runing at 133mhz(ddr266) and it seems fine as far as how i use my computer for now.

Some Acer turion notebooks had this problem too (TM4400) but a bios update from Acer seemed to fix it. I hope HP gives us a Bios Update soon.

My v2000z is running both dimms at 160 Mhx. Mine also came with a later bios than that is on the web site F.0A (dated 8/9/2005). May be they addressed some issue with the memory in this later bios update.

Edit: One of the dimms is a Nanya which did not come with the v2000z.

ATI didn't bother testing any of the mainstream manufacturers other than Crucial. Keep in mind that these are the modules ATI themselves tested, but there's no reason why the memory from other manufacturers won't be compatible with the ATI RadeonExpress 200m as well.
