    I intend to buy a dv2670 here in India. It comes with 1GB RAM. I intend to upgrade it to 2 GB but am unwilling to buy the costly additional RAM provided by HP. So I am thinking of buying RAM of some other brand. What I want to know is could it be possible that by using some other brand's RAM I could possibly be violating some clause(s) of the warranty agreement?

    No, you are allowed to install more memory or replace the RAM modules that are inside. All of the HP laptops have 2 slots for RAM, so since you are getting the 1GB you will have 2 x 512MB sticks inside your computer. The fastest RAM that you can put in your system is the 667 Mhz. Also, for a little bit more you can go with 4GB of RAM, even though your computer will only be able to use 3.2GB of memory unless you have a 64-bit version of Vista.

    Anyways, the link below will bring you to www.newegg.com and show you some choices for RAM:

    2GB RAM:

    4GB RAM:

    Hope this helps!

    There are only 2 memory slots and you can fill it up with any configuration you want upto 4GB.

    If you want to utilize the full 4GB, then you will need the 64bit version of Windows Vista/XP. 32bitversions even though they wil work with 4GB RAM will only be capable of making use of around 3GB or so and the rest is usually allocated for the hardware.

    Are you sure because on the page given in the above post it says that it is upgradeable only up to 2GB. Besides I am also not convinced by the look that they have presented there of the notebook. I presume all 2600 series laptops are of the verve finish?

    Yeah, HP sold until this week the dv2500/dv2600 series here in the US with 4GB RAM. No reason these wont support it. As for as the finish is concerned the regular imprint is the 'Radiance', the 'Verve' is the brand name for the special edition bronze imprint. So, not all dv2600 series will have this imprint but most will have the Radiance imprint.

    Thanks a lot Miner. Actually I am living in India and am getting this Laptop for myself from the Middle east as the required specs aren't available in India. Here is the page of the reseller in Saudi Arabia from where I will be getting it;

    Apparently the reseller's site is more informative than the Seller(HP). :)

    And just to add to that the pic in the above link clearly shows that it has a Verve finish and not a radiance finish! So I believe I have reason to be happy!

    Hmm...I'm not too sure. Even though they have a pic of the special edition for that laptop. But the product number (GY447EAABV) & the spec on the HP website indicates it to be the regular Radiance imprint finish based model.

    If you want a Verve finish system look specifically for the special edition model. Like this one...

    Yeah I have seen that but apparently the HP Site has lots of mistakes that I have verified from many sources. I should be buying in 2-3 weeks so will tell you exactly what I get! Thanks a lot for helping.
