My nephew has a dv6235 and after uninstalling some of the junk it runs pretty good. It currently has two 512mb sticks. If I buy him 1gb will the total 1.5gb's make a noticeable difference or is 2gb a must.

Is this vista or XP? In either case both solutions are fine but with vista it is best to go the most you can get and today the best value seems to be with the 2gb configuration. Vista will run smoother this way. As for XP, 1GB is usually fine for it and anything more than that will do. Personally I would just go for the 2gb, it saves you the hassle of needing to go for it in the future and besides, the 512 sticks could be worth something today, theyll be worth alot less tomorrow.

im a little confused about what you said...it has 2x512 stick and if you buy a 1gig stick you will have 1.5 gig of ram, are one of the 512 sticks already in the expansion slot? if it is then you wont be able to upgrade to 2 gig unless you replace both 512 sticks with two 1 gig sticks because you cant buy 1.5 gig sticks of ram.

You'll need a matched pair of SODIMMs for dual-channel memory access, so that's another reason to go straight to 2GB of memory.

Yep, that's true. Though they don't need to bought in a dual channel kit, you do need two of the same brand, model, and size. So if you see a good deal of 1gb ones, I just saw one for a Corsair one for $47 shipped from zippyzoom or newegg, just get two of them.
