    Hello,

I am wanting to play 1080p movies on my dv2500t, but it is struggling. I was wondering if there if I should bother trying to rig up my laptop to try and handle it. Here are the specs.

    Windows Vista 32 bit
    HP Pavilion dv2500t notebook
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
    Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7500 (2.20 GHz, 4 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
    14.1" WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800)
    2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    319MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
    Using Windows Media Classic

    Thanks

Oh okay, that was the answer I was hoping for. But my MKV files lag like crazy and burns out my laptop to a point where it just shuts off. Would anyone have any idea why this is happening?

That's crazy. I had a dv6700t before with that 8400m GS and handled 1080p just fine. Heck the Intel GMA950 works well with 1080p.

What player are you using? Try using VLC.

You're probably using the wrong set of codecs...

Try out CoreAVC (commercial) or Media Player Classic HomeCinema (open-source=free)

Thanks for your feedback, I'm using Windows Media Classic from the K-Lite codecs package.

Do you think it has something to do with my video drivers? I recently reformated my vista, but I d/led all the drivers from the hp site. I'll mess around some more with decoders when I get off of work tonight. But as of now, The Dark Knight 1080p pwns my dv2500t. Hopefully I can resolve this.

Your video drivers shouldn't be causing the problem... The codec pack you're using probably doesn't make use of the acceleration available on your video card...

I dunno if the 8400GS has H.264/VC-1 acceleration... but I've been using Media Player Classic HomeCinema and have had success with 1080p content...
