Hi guys, I recently picked up a Compaq Presario CQ40-332TU - it's pretty much a bottom of the barrel bargain laptop, I know, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well it handled playback of 720p video, even output over HDMI to a 720p HDTV. The relevant specs are as follows:

    Intel T3400 (2.0GHz)
    2 GB RAM
    GMA 4500MHD

    Running video through:

    Quicktime 7.6.4
    VLC 1.0.3

My question is, can this computer play 1080p video? My understanding of the integrated video card is that it SHOULD be able to handle 1080p playback quite smoothly. However, I can't ever seem to get it to run for more than 10 seconds at a time without dropping frames and getting video lag and severe ghosting / pixelization and artefacting. I'm currently running the RC1 of Windows7 (I'm waiting for the prices here in the Philippines to drop as they're a bit exorbitant), if that helps anything.

Thanks in advance for any responses to this.

Sorry, my mistake. The processor is actually an Intel T4200, still clocked at 2GHz.

Using the final release of Windows 7 may help, but the Intel 4500MHD is supposed to support HD video. Smooth-ness of playback can vary with the size of TV you're using.

Thanks man! But the problem isn't just with the TV output - playing it back on the laptop is still ridiculously choppy. I've set it to drop frames when necessary but it doesn't help any. I've tried it on both 22in and 42in HDTVs and I'm still getting the same level of choppiness.
