Does anyone know if the 12 cell battery proves detrimental to heat dissipation when using it in tandem with a notebook cooler? Some notebook coolers draw away heat - I was wondering if the gap between the 12 cell battery and the notebook cooler makes heat dissipation less effective.

I'm also kind of worried that with the twelve cell and notebook cooler, it'll be extremely annoying to type, having nearly two inches of elevation off the desk. Anyone care to share their opinions?

im assuming you mean the 12cell on a HP dv series. and actually people seem to like the lift, makes the typing easier as i have read.

and the lift off the ground alone is enough for heat dissipation. i wouldn't even bother using a cooler, if you must, it still should work fine

Its easier to type on an angle actually. As for the 12cell, since it will sit a little higher from the pad, it wont suck as much warm air out. The closer it is to the fans the more it will draw out air. Its nothing significant enough to worry about though.

Make sure you get a cooling pad where the fans are positioned where most of the heat is being made. eg. the left hand palm rest side and middle part where the ram is for the DVxxxx series.

lol. I'm in the same situation as you. The $9 Antec cooler? Haha. I wish I had went with the 12 cell and 6 cell battery when I bought my laptop. Buying them separate costs so much.

I bought a cooler off ebay with the 3 blue LEDs (some generic junk but the LEDs make it look cool) and regardless it helps cool the temperature significantly or not, it definitely won't be hot when you pickup your laptop from the bottom. I hope the Antec gets better results and it seems like it has better quality than the junk on Ebay. And for $9 right now, it's worth trying.

1st. Typing is easier for me with elevated keyboard.
2nd. Your wasting a cooling pad using a 12 cell battery.

Here is how I'm currently cooling my notebook. Without the red fan, the notebook underneath and by keyboard is quite hot... with fan it is cool to the touch. I have an elevation pad, plus the 12 cell battery to elevate it even more, then the fan blows over/under it. Works good for me. I may get a cooling pad that I can take with me in the notebook backpack.
