The $50 cooling pads that "run quiet" and do almost nothing weren't cutting it for me so I macgyvered this gaming desk with a $15 fan from walmart. I get about a 15-20 degree difference under load, I can be playing skyrim on high in an intense area and the air coming from the exhaust will be warm and not a flamethrower.

That is hilarious, and probably obnoxious.

Seriously? The air blows UP dude.....

And the fan is actually pretty quiet. Thanks to the subwoofer you can barely hear it over the swords clanging, dragons roaring etc.

Yes, but there must be some serious backdraft from the air reflecting off of the bottom of the notebook.

I do give you points for coming up with something more effective than the 50 dollar crap.

If you point a fan at a wall, you will still feel the air blowing on you due to the reflection off of said wall.

The disturbance of the pressure of the room must be equalized and hitting an object doesn't stop the air from moving, it just redirects it until the air pressure in the local area returns to normal.

Nice! I was thinking about doing a similar mod to my old desk. I want to add fans into the desk by cutting out holes and fitting proper sized fans directly below the laptop but this looks like an easier/cheaper route. I already have a quiet fan but would like it to be super quiet and have zero vibrations.

Yeah I thought about that too but this seemed like a simpler solution. This was a 3 tier shelf that I put my laptop on at night, by removing the bottom shelf and heightening the middle one it effectively becomes a desk. The whole thing only cost me $35 to build and the difference is truly insane.

Just lay this 18" box fan flat, and put your laptop on it. Of course you need space behind the fan-

yeah thats the kind of table fan i was talking about earlier lol

40-45 is insanely low for these laptops under stress (hell thats usually the idle temperatures) so im going to need some screenshots of this thing running prime95 or something to believe you >.<

As soon as I get my new dv6 I'll do that. I know that when it's idling I've seen it go down to below 30. I let it run for about 30 minutes after I made the desk just to see what it would do, I was scared to let it get any cooler. The best thing about this is that you actually see a huge difference. With the coolers I think the only difference is in your imagination lol.

Nice going! :D Far more graceful than mine.
I had two planks of wood to prop my old toshiba up over two-three hand held fan things.

Lmfao this probably works a bit better, ideally I wanted a small box fan so that the on/off switch would be accessible through the little cubby but I can't find one.
