Below are the two spec sheets for the HP 1080p monitor by LG and the 95% gamut screen offered on the Sagers by AUO.
LG (HP): LP156WF1-TPB1 Datasheet PDF Download
AUO (Sager): http://www.yslcd.com.tw/docs/product/B156HW01 V.4.pdf
On paper the HP actually looks pretty good if you compare the important specs:
Spec: HP / Sager
Color Depth: 6-bit 262,144 color / 6-bit 262,144 color
Luminance, White: 300 / 270
Power Conumption: 7.85W / 11.5W
Contrast Ratio: 500:1 / 400:1
Surface Luminance, white: 300 / 270
Response Time: 8ms / 8ms
Viewing Angle Side to Side: 60 deg / 70 deg
Viewing Angle Up Down: 50 deg / 60 deg
NTSC gamut: 60% / 95%
Viewing angles and NTSC gamut go to the AUO, but power, contrast, luminance goes to the LG.
I will have my hands on both an NP8130 and DV6z (as long as HP ships on time) for a short period and will be sure to give my subjective evaluation.
The NP8130 95% screen is available for sale from most Sager or Clevo resellers for $199 if anyone is interested.

I've had my hands on the dv6t's AUO matte screen and while it's a great screen, I think I have to admit that glossy screens do look more vibrant. You can see the difference in gaming and movies.

Both of these screens are matte. It's mostly personal preference glossy or matte, but glossy is such a pain in the butt if there is ever any kind of light behind you. I hate glossy with a passion, but everything with laptops is these days. Most HDTV's are matte though, including my 60" DLP, my 24" IPS monitor is matte too. If the monitor is designed right matte looks as good as or better than glossy. Glossy is just the cheap way to make the contrast look better than it really is.

You can go into the graphics saturation option and increase it, then the colors really get vibrant. The manilla windows explorer folders actually become bright yellow! I am thinking of getting the dv6 1080p, but I am real picky about vertical viewing angles. I don't like a screen that dims or washes out colors when my head moves up or down an inch, or I move the lid/screen an inch open or closed. How is the vertical viewing angle on the HP dv6? And I heard it was an AUO screen, not LG.

I haven't seen the dv6's AUO 1080p panel, but I'm pretty satisfied with the colors on my dv6's LG 1080p panel.

Hi there WingNut!
Do you remember how big the (real, not specified) power consumption difference between those two panels was? And did you notice a difference in the antireflective coatings?
