Hello All:
I just purchased a dv9650us, upgrading from a zx5000. On the zx5000 I was able to use the monitor at 1680x1050 resolution... does this simply mean that my monitor's native resolution was 1680x1050 on the zx5000? Or was I able to somehow 'push' its resolution up higher?
I would really love to have more pixels to work with on the dv9650 screen. 1440x900 is a little smaller than I'd like. Is there a way to push up the resolution without it becoming a blurry mess? Some way to force the video card to operate at a higher resolution?
Thanks in advance.

No. Pixels are physical objects, and the pixel fairy is very strict about handing out free pixels to add to your screen.
Edit: Man, my posts are getting worse and worse. -
I think the zx5000 has a native resolution of 1680x1050, unless it's in some kind of panning mode (the screen "slides around" in that case).

Hoo-boy I'm going to beat the dust out of the pixel fairy when I see her. Rainbows will be coming out of her rear.

now that's just wrong!....but true!
*LOL* -
The dv9000 series is available with 1680x1050 resolution, but it is optional. If you have the standard 1440x900 screen, I'm afraid you are stuck there....

Does anyone know if it's possible to swap out the screen after the fact? Like buy a different screen, detach the old one, connect the new one to the motherboard, everything works properly??
( I assume HP would charge a huge amount for a replacement screen...) -
Sorry... to be more clear:
What I'm wondering is if the screen can simply be swapped out for an WSXGA+ (1680x1050) screen and it'll work properly, or if there will be hardware conflicts? Like if the connector is different, the card/mobo are tuned for a different resolution or something else I'm missing.
I already did a quick search on ebay and found replacement screens for a little under $280 or so. -

Thanks all for your responses!

Yes, you can definitely get another screen and swap it out with the one that came with the laptop. I've seen posts in this forum about people adding in the 1920x1200 screen to get 1080p for their Blu-Ray or HD-DVD Players they bought with the laptop.

Swapping the screen is an option, but it may cost as much or more than if you sold your current laptop on ebay and then bought a new one from HP with the screen already installed.
1680x1050 on a dv9650us?
