I just got the DV9700 notebook and it is nice. But i think i made the wrong screen choice. i bought the 1680x1400 screen and paid exta versus the 1400x900 screen.
Now the letters and pixs are very small. a bit too small for my tasting but this means that i have to go thru the whole return process and hope they will honor the discount that i got.
How good is this screen and how does everyone like the 1680x1400 screen?
should i return and get the standard 1400x900 screen?

It's actually 1680x1050, you wouldn't want a squarish screen, would you?
Personally I find 1680x1050 the best resolution for a 17" screen. If you don't want to go through the whole returning thing, you can increase the DPI setting to 120 or so, or simple go to the desktop appearance and change font size to large. Good luck.

i have the 1680x1050 and i like it
if you want to change the resolution just right click with no programs running and the nvidia control panel comes up(assuming you have a video card) and just play with it until you find something you like

Don't you need to have the screen at it's native resolution to get the best quality of picture out of it?

I'm in the same boat on deciding what screen to get.

    i´d go for the 1680x1050.
i have the 8510p 15,4" with the very same resolution, and i don´t think that resolution is too small. in a 17" laptop everything should be very good too read , even for those with bad eyes....:GEEK:

If you think that everything is too small for you, you should return it and get a lower resolution.
But if you want to save the money that you saved and think that you can adapt to the higher resolution, then keep it.

i have the 1440x900 looks great for text and everything, thats really all you need for just a 17inch screen. if you really want to get one with 1440x900 its not to hard plus the coupon to get $400 off is still going on till the 22nd. just call up hp and they will send you a email you print it out and tape it to the box it came in, bring it too fedex done. you will have your money back in a week. then just order a new one. you could always order the new one now if you have the money...
